The Bureau of Field Operations is responsible for the survey and certification process of health care facilities across the State of Florida. These surveys ensure that all state licensed, and federally certified health care facilities meet the established state and/or federal requirements and patients and residents receive safe, quality health care. Field Operations staff also ensure the safety of residents in health care facilities when emergencies such as natural disasters occur.


The Work You'll Do:


This position may require extensive travel, including significant overnight travel.


Successful completion of all Center for Medicare Services (CMS) Quality, Safety & Education Portal (QSEP) training for Life Safety within 6 months of hire is required for this position.


This position is individually responsible to provide life safety inspection expertise for the licensure and certification of health care facilities. Requirements may include performing these duties as a team leader, team member or individually as assigned. The incumbent will perform on-site surveys, document findings, and prepare reports.


The incumbent will provide independent specialized work on all aspects of fire safety, fire prevention and other areas of life safety. Responsibilities also include understanding and enforcement of national, state, and local fire safety NFPA codes and laws.


The incumbent may also be required to conduct surveys of other types of licensed providers, as assigned by management.


The incumbent must be proficient with computer equipment and software programs, such as Microsoft Word and Outlook, as well as smart phone technology.


The incumbent must also be available to work before and after normal work hours including weekends and holidays.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the principals of administration and management.
  • Knowledge of state licensure and federal certification requirements.
  • Skills in the techniques of oral communication, attentive listening, interview procedures, writing skills, team dynamics, and methods of documentation review.
  • Ability to plan and organize to ensure timely completion of survey responsibilities.
  • Ability to utilize microcomputer equipment and software to enter, retrieve and manipulate data required to perform licensure and certification functions.
  • Ability to travel as necessary, to perform duties with or without accommodation.
  • Ability to lift a laptop/tablet, computers, manuals, ladders, etc.
  • Ability to climb ladders to inspect smoke/fire walls and roof mounted equipment.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time while performing surveys.
  • Knowledge of the methods, techniques, and equipment used in fire safety preventions.
  • Ability to conduct fire inspections for fire safety and prevention.
  • Knowledge of construction standard rating for health care facilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

Fire Safety Inspector I Certification is required for this position pursuant to Chapter 633.261, F.S. and Chapter 69A-39, F.A.C.


At least two years of professional or paraprofessional experience in fire prevention, fire protection systems installations or other construction inspection related experience is required.


This position is required to complete Basic Life Safety training within six (6) months of hire.


A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is preferred and can substitute for one year of professional or paraprofessional experience in fire prevention, fire protection systems installations, or other construction inspection related experience.


LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

Fire Safety Inspector I Certificate of Compliance in accordance with Chapter 633.261, F.S. and Chapter 69A-39, F.A.C.
