Specific Duties and Responsibilities

This is a Health Services Representative position working in the Delray Beach Health Center. Work is performed under the general supervisor of the Senior Community Health Nursing Supervisor. This position requires independent judgment, initiative, applying general knowledge of business practices and skill in applying instructions to accomplish various job functions.


This position is designated as a sensitive position and is required to maintain confidential information in accordance with the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) Palm Beach County Health Department (CHD) Information Security Policy, Protocol and Procedures. Confidential data sets include, clinical data sets such as patient information, epidemiological information regarding STD’s. This position will view, update and release information from, Health Management System (HMS), to view, update, and release information. This also includes access to Employee Activity Reports (EARs), Electronic Health Records (EHR), Surveillance Tools & Reporting System (STARS)


Assist in performing intake vital signs procedures for patients attending clinics and documents findings. Notifies nurse and/or provider if results are abnormal. Assist the physician and other providers in the examination of patients. Instruct patients in proper technique of collection of specimens. Properly prepares, packages, and sends specimens to the laboratory.


Checks, cleans, and restocks examination rooms to ensure they are ready for each day. Empties biohazard bags when full. Cleans and autoclaves gynecological instruments and ensures clinic has adequate inventory. Tracks and follows up patients with positive Quantitative Fluorescence Technique (QFT). Follow up patients with positive QFT and ensure they have clinic appointments. Notifying patients of future appointments for X-rays or treatment.


Assist in preparation of records for clinics, laboratory and provider consultation. Track’s clients lost to care, follow up with missed appointments and send out letters. Contact patients to remind them of clinic appointments. Participate in patient health education.


Assist in orientation of new employees. Participate in regularly scheduled clinic team meetings and QI activities.


Perform other related duties as required.


Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:

  • Knowledge of basic medical and pharmaceutical terminology.
  • Knowledge of basic computer software and electronic health records.
  • Knowledge of instrument decontamination and sterilization.
  • Skilled in using medical instruments or testing equipment.
  • Ability to interview patients and obtain a complete medical history.
  • Ability to use computer, computer programs, and office machines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively to convey information (verbally and writing) to others.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.

Other job-related requirements for this position:

May be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural. Valid Driver’s License is required.
