Your Specific Responsibilities:


Provides excellent customer service to clients displaying courtesy and respect while expediting their visit to reduce wait time.

Certify clients for participation in the WIC program in accordance with policies of the state WIC program and regulations stated in DHM 150-24. Provides nutrition education in a group or individual counseling in the areas of infant, childhood, prenatal, and post-natal including breastfeeding, nutrition, and physical activity to promote development and maintenance of good nutrition and lifestyle habits. Develop, monitor, evaluate, and revise nutrition education plans for individual low-risk and high-risk WIC program clients not at medical nutritional risk. Refer medical nutrition high risk clients to the appropriate Licensed Dietitian for counseling. Documents in FL-Wise electronic client records by end of business day. In rare emergencies, a late entry note must follow local and state protocol. Documents in FL- Wise data system; monitor accuracy of growth grids; distribute special formula to clients based on a valid medical condition and prescribed by a Physician/ARNP/Physician Assistant prescription. Follow policies and procedures for collection, entry, and management of data.

Performs duties utilizing a teamwork approach to assure program objectives are coordinated with other staff to achieve desired results.

Cultivates positive work relationships with co-workers and communicates key information to supervisor and co-workers for efficient operations.

Maintains client confidentiality and security in accordance DOHP50-10-10 Information Security & Privacy Policy Confidential Information.

Assist in other areas of the office to assure client services are provided efficiently. Select, develop, and evaluate client educational material. Participate in the development, planning and carrying out of objectives/activities in the Bi-annual Nutrition Program Plan. Assist with complex breastfeeding client encounters upon request of other nutrition or breastfeeding staff utilizing specialized breastfeeding training and/or certifications.

Completes WIC, nutrition, and breastfeeding in-services for the community. Accurately completes all client records, HMS EARS, People First time and leave records, GoTravel, etc., by required deadlines. Attends and participates in staff meetings, in-service training, and other professional and staff developmental activities.

Performs related work as required.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Computer skills, competency in FL-Wise, bachelor’s degree in nutrition or Dietetics, nutrition and breastfeeding training, Value Enhanced Nutrition Assessment skills. 4 months of nutrition or nutrition student internship experience


Qualifications:


Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition or dietetics
  • Four months of nutrition or nutrition student internship experience
  • Computer skills and good writing/Speaking skills.
  • Florida Department of Health is required to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs shelter or performing other emergency duties including but not limited to, response to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster man-made or natural.


Preferred:

  • Experience working in the WIC program.
  • Nutrition counseling skill and ability
