The Kansas Board of Examiners in Optometry shall administer and enforce the Provisions of Kansas Optometry Law so the highest quality of eye care is provided to the citizens of Kansas.

Compensation:

  • Hourly Pay Range: $22.00 - $30.00

Position Description:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manages license renewal process for optometrists. Includes preparation and e-mailing of license renewal announcement; review of on-line applications; information processing; data management; distribution of license renewal certificates; discipline for late renewal. Also includes problem solving, communications with renewal applicants, reporting results to Board. Includes coordination with INK for maintenance and improvement of on-line license renewal
  • Manages licensure and exam process for optometrists. Includes coordination with applicants to collect all appropriate documents for application. Determines what documents are necessary for license approval. Administers law exam for reciprocal license applicants. Manages, plans, prepares and administers annual licensing exam. Includes problem solving, coordination and communications with applicants and Board members.
  • Manages complaints from the public about licensees. Includes communications with the public and licensees to gather information, communications with Board member assigned to investigate, communications with Board attorney regarding investigation and discipline.
  • Communicates by phone, fax, email and letter with health care providers, attorneys and other state licensing boards to verify license status. Maintains license verification information on the Board web site.
  • Prepares and administers the budget; prepares and manages contracts; manages purchasing and information technology. Communicates, cooperates and coordinates with other agencies to accomplish agency and state objectives.
  • Develops and maintains databases, forms, records necessary to accomplish agency mission. Includes development and maintenance of Board web site and publication of annual newsletter.
  • Arranges and attends Board meetings to approve licensure, certification and trade names; formulates procedures, determines operational needs and proposes revisions to applicable laws and regulations.
  • Establishes a system to detect weaknesses and inadequacies in services and procedures, determines whether needs are being met and makes changes to correct deficiencies and consistently satisfy customers

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree of equivalent experience in public administration or business/accounting

Special Skills, Abilities, Certifications

  • Must be skilled at creating and maintaining documents in Microsoft Office programs; SMART, SHARP, IBARS, Granicus (website)

State of Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate. The successful applicant (even non-residents) must obtain a valid Kansas Certificate of Tax Clearance by accessing the Kansas Department of Revenue's website within 10 days of the date the applicant has been offered the employment position. A Tax Clearance is a comprehensive tax account review to determine and ensure that an individual's account is compliant with all primary Kansas Tax Laws. A Tax Clearance expires every 90 days.
