The Summit Area YMCA (SAY), is seeking experienced Personal Trainer to teach classes to our members and help take our wellness programs to the next level. The Personal Trainer is responsible for developing, training, and overseeing safe and effective exercise programs for members that will help the member(s) achieve their fitness goals in private, semi-private or small group exercise sessions.
This position is part time with an opportunity to train multiple session per week. We are currently look for Trainers to teach clients at both the Summit YMCA and Berkeley Heights YMCA branches, during operation hours. Wages are competitive, starting $28/hour, but are based on experience. Benefit of employment at the Y incudes a free YMCA membership and discounts on family membership.

Essential Functions:
- Prepare and execute a safe and appropriate class.
- Provide fitness instruction to members who desire an exercise program tailored to their specific needs and/or limitations.
- Develop programs and choose exercises that provide optimum results and takes into account activities that the member enjoys.
- Act as a motivator according to member’s preference.
- Be respectful and considerate of member’s physical space.
- Properly demonstrate the movements and exercises recommended.
- Provide encouragement and support to member and recognize member’s strengths and weaknesses.
- Notify supervisor of all new clients prior to first appointment.
- Be prompt for all appointments.
- Update MindBody at least one week prior to all appointments.
- Respond to all leads from the personal training director for client appointments within 24-36 hours.
- Keep all relationships with member clients on a business basis: no personal relationships are permitted between a trainer and a member.
- Do not accept money from the member: the member service desk handles all payments.
- Represent the Y in a professional manner in both appearance and behavior.
- Maintain current national Personal Trainer/CPR certification.
- Complete incident reports as needed.
- Wear proper attire: staff or collared shirt, nametag, sneakers, athletic pants or casual pants (not running tights). No hats will be allowed.
- Log all training appointments in MindBody.
- Mark all clients as arrived, if not, write notes within appointment
- Attend all mandatory staff meeting and trainings.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements
Qualifications:
- A valid national Personal Trainer Certification (ACE, NSCA, ACSM, NATA or NASM) and/ or a degree in exercise related field.
- Demonstrated knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
- Ability to properly demonstrate correctly demonstrate the required movements associated with training.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Valid CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, or ability to obtain within 3 months.
- Be knowledgeable about health & fitness field including current trends and safety issues.
