Preferred Qualifications Position Summary

This incumbent is responsible for helping develop and implement aspects of the marketing and communications functions of the J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development at the University of Georgia. This employee will work closely with the institute’s faculty, program staff, and communications team to serve the marketing and communications needs of the institute. Among the position’s responsibilities are working with the institute teams to deliver project deliverables, designing graphics, writing stories, and assisting with the institute’s social media and web-based communications strategies.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And/or Competencies

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Graphic design skills (E.g. Canva, Adobe, and other technology or software)
  • In-depth analytical and organizational skills
  • Demonstrable social networking experience
  • Adequate web content and maintenance experience
  • Proficient in social media applications
  • Strong writing, proofing, and editing skills
  • Gather and analyze media related data
  • Contribute to the development of strategic marketing and communications strategies

Marketing

  • Produces marketing content for Fanning in alignment with UGA-PSO’s marketing and visual identify guidelines including newsletters, news stories, flyers, and internal documents.

Percentage of time 25 Duties/Responsibilities

Graphic Design

  • Creates and designs graphics for institute purposes to include layout, presentation templates, and digital and printed materials.

Percentage of time 20 Duties/Responsibilities

Social Media

  • Manages the institute’s social media
  • Develops, coordinates, or compiles content for relevant audiences on behalf of the director and institute.

Percentage of time 25 Duties/Responsibilities

Website Content Management

  • Responsible for updating and maintaining all institute related websites.
  • Helps populate and update mail and email distribution databases to be used in implementing institute marketing plans.

Percentage of time 10 Duties/Responsibilities

Media and Client Relations & Events

  • Maintains strong working relationships with key marketing-communications personnel within Public Service and Outreach and the University of Georgia as well as key clients/customers and media contacts.
  • Assists with development and coordination of special events.
  • Coordinates marketing events, such as exhibits at affinity group conferences and maintain strong working relationships with key client and affinity groups.

  • Works with the Fanning PR-communications team to product articles, feature stories, news releases and reports about the Institute’s trainings and programs.
