Job Summary
Provide exceptional customer service as a financial aid counselor by advising students and parents regarding their specific financial aid situation. This counselor must balance compassion for the individuals being served and dedication to the federal, state, and institutional policies we must uphold.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Report to Associate Director
- Remain current on all federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs
- Evaluate and process verification and other documents that pertain to awarding Title IV programs
- Provide customer service to students in the financial aid call center and at the front counter
- Review completed financial aid files and provide information to the student designed to educate the individual about their award package using eligibility requirements
- Provide daily communication via telephone, email or in-person with students
- Process an influx of emails daily within a 24-48 hour turnaround time to maintain excellent customer service.
- Assist in training office student workers.
- Monitor students with unsatisfied requirements. Staying in consistent contact with them to ensure completion of requirements in a timely manner.
- Analyze and interpret financial aid data received using electronic data exchange
- Conduct workshops to inform students about financial aid awareness and student loan counseling sessions
- Participate in activities outside of normal business hours designed for student retention and recruitment on and off campus
- Follow all FERPA policies to maintain student confidentiality
- Complete other duties as assigned by Associate Director and Director
- Less than 10% travel required
- Less than 5% unpaid absenteeism
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- A proven track record of discretion and integrity in handling confidential information
- Dependable, and able to work independently and self-manage in a fast paced environment
- Professional demeanor and excellent written and oral communication skills
- Effective written, oral communication, and presentation skills
- Critical thinking
- Comfortable giving presentations in front of large and small groups
- Excellent skills associated with multi-tasking, organization, and attention to detail

Preferred Skills: - Knowledge of Banner reports and processes, Word, Excel, Outlook
- Understanding of institutional, state, and federal aid practices and policies
- Familiarity with financial aid policies and procedures
