The University Center for International Studies (UCIS) was created as the University of Pittsburgh’s encompassing framework for all of its multidisciplinary international programs. UCIS is currently seeking an Immigration Specialist (Employment Team) to work in the Office of International Services (OIS) The Immigration Specialist will be a part of the team in OIS that handles scholar and employee casework and advising at the University of Pittsburgh. Immigration advising on the Employment Team includes E, H, J, O, TN and employment-based lawful permanent residence. Inherent functions include: (1) advising and assisting international scholars and employees with regard to complex immigration regulations, as well as personal, social, and/or academic concerns; (2) representing OIS and/or functioning as liaison between OIS and other University schools/departments/divisions, community organizations, and federal agencies (e.g., the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Department of Labor, etc.); (3) responding to inquiries regarding immigration matters; and (4) serving as Designated School Official and Alternate Responsible Officer with authorization to access and report to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Student & Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident in order to be registered with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Department of State to carry out the responsibilities of the position.
Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of 2-3 years’ working experience or a relevant Master’s degree. 1-2 years’ experience in scholar and employment immigration advising preferred. Expectation of excellent oral/written communication skills, problem-solving skills, and customer service skills. Experience working with individuals from a variety of cultural backgrounds. Knowledge and experience working with various software programs and student systems/on-line application systems. Immediate supervisor is the Assistant Director of OIS’ Employment Team, who reports to the Associate Director of OIS. Will work independently with limited supervision.
Minimum of 2-3 years’ working experience, with 1-2 years’ experience in scholar and employment immigration advising preferred.
Excellent oral/written communication skills, problem-solving skills, and customer service skills. Experience working with individuals from a variety of cultural backgrounds. Knowledge and experience working with various software programs and student systems/on-line application systems. Foreign language proficiency/fluency helpful. Study and/or work abroad a plus.
