This position will be filled at either the Assistant Director of Development or Associate Director for Development, relative to experience and qualifications of the selected candidate. Purpose Reports to Senior Director of Development in the Cockrell School. This position will develop, execute and drive a major giving strategy for the Department of Chemical Engineering. The Cockrell School is seeking an Assistant/Associate Director of Development who can cultivate relationships with that alumni base to elevate the department’s major gift fundraising output during the current capital campaign. Position includes significant travel and remote work opportunities. Responsibilities Build and carry an active portfolio of 50 to 100 prospective donors. Engage in qualification, strategy, and relationship building to close major gift(s) of $100,000 . Consistently raise more than $1 million per year. Develop prospect pipeline through visits, events, correspondence, and regular calls as required for donors in the portfolio. Conceptualize, prepare, and present funding proposals and other materials necessary to solicit and close gifts. Effectively work with faculty, academic, and administrative leaders. Maintain appropriate electronic documentation on a timely basis, including proposal tracking, contact reports, donor strategies, and forecasting in VIP. Work collaboratively, proactively, and in a professional, service-oriented manner with all University development officers to further the development goals of the University. Other related functions as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree. A minimum of two years of increasingly responsible experience in major gifts fundraising or related fields. Experience in developing a strategic development plan for soliciting and securing gifts from private sources. Proven and measurable track record of successful face-to-face interactions with prospective donors. Experience in establishing strategies for identifying, qualifying, and cultivating prospective donors. Experience in developing and presenting gift proposals to prospective donors. Experience supporting senior administrators, faculty, and fellow gift officers. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively, work well under pressure, and manage details of several concurrent projects. Proven project management skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. Must be able to travel to visit prospects and donors. Capable of working independently. Work with integrity and professionalism. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications Three or more years of increasingly responsible experience in individual major gifts fundraising with a track record of consistently closing numerous major gifts in excess of one million dollars annually. Experience working in a large-scale research university. Experience working in a technical environment. Experience with prospect management systems, e.g. VIP, Raiser's Edge, etc. Salary Range OPEN Working Conditions Work is performed in a standard office environment. Repetitive use of keyboard at workstation Position involves significant travel, including overnight and weekends. Work outside normal business hours will be required on a periodic basis during peak periods and for special events.
