Job Posting Title: Research Engineering/ Scientist Associate I ---- Hiring Department: Department of Neuroscience ---- Position Open To: All Applicants ---- Weekly Scheduled Hours: 40 ---- FLSA Status: Exempt ---- Earliest Start Date: Aug 10, 2023 ---- Position Duration: Expected to Continue ---- Location: AUSTIN, TX ---- Job Details: Purpose Duties will include lab management, microscopy, molecular biology protocols, protein biochemistry, tissue culture, and electrophysiology. This position is ideally suited for someone with experience in the physiology and biophysics of ion channels because responsibilities include extensive electrophysiology and fluorescence microscopy techniques for the Senning Lab in the Department of Neuroscience. Responsibilities Perform DNA construct design, assembly, validation, and preservation. Perform ion channel characterization by electrophysiology and imaging techniques. Protein characterization by gel separation and western blotting. Advanced microscopy imaging of live, and fixed cells. Perform animal tissue, cell culture passage and use transient transfection methods. Presentation of data and preparation of figures and writing for manuscripts Participation in lab personnel mentoring. Maintain and organize laboratory supplies; maintain inventory of supplies and place orders to replenish stock. Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in life sciences. 1 year of previous research experience. Relevant experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications Well-developed organizational and interpersonal skills. Experience collecting behavioral and neural recording data from small animals or electrophysiology greatly preferred. Ability to work independently also highly valued. Salary Range $35,600 depending on qualifications Working Conditions May work around chemical fumes. May work around standard office conditions.
