GENERAL SUMMARY: Conduct surveillance, prepare reports and prepares and develops educational programs and control activities consistent with the goals/objectives of the hospital-wide Infection Control Program.
Provides program maintenance in conjunction with the Service Director, Epidemiologist and Infection Control Committee.
Standard definitions (Nosocomial Infections Criteria) are utilized to adjust for infection presentation differences in the neonate and geriatric populations.
Control measures, e.g. isolation strategies, are adjusted as needed as part of the individual patient plan of care or unit specific protocols.QUALIFICATIONS:

- Registered Professional Nurse currently licensed in New York State or Medical Technologist registered with the American Society of Clinical Pathology or licensed in NY state.
- B.S. required; Infection Control Certification preferred.
- Four years acute care experience preferred.
- Demonstrates working knowledge of epidemiology and statistics, microbiology, infectious diseases, sterilization and disinfection practices.
- Meets requirements of physical/pre-placement screening. As applicable, the individual has training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of the patients for which care is being provided
