What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lab Assistant - Clinical position at The Vancouver Clinic?

Perform tasks of lab report retrieval, report distribution, report filing and other lab process flows and clerical functions. Perform CLIA waived Lab tests following training and direction of Medical Technologists. Inventory and order Laboratory office supplies as directed by Lab Manager.
SCHEDULE: 32 hours/week, will work 4 x 8-hour shifts, variable.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Lab Result Retrieval/Clerical
  • Maintain lab files of reports and orders, rotating and purging files per procedural guidelines.
  • Observe CLIA and Medicare retention guidelines for retention of results and lab test orders.
  • File lab result copies in an orderly, clearly identifiable, and easily accessible manner.
  • Accurately labels lab record storage boxes for offsite storage.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of lab offsite records.
  • Perform biannual storage audit of STAT record retrieval per procedural guidelines.
  • Enter accurately into information systems the specimens for couriers, verifying that specimens are labeled legibly and accurately, and that Reference Lab requisitions are correctly completed. Generate Face sheets to attach to Reference Lab requisition for patient billing information.
  • Unpack the Laboratory supply deliveries, reconciling items to the packing lists. Date the reagents and kits with the received date, storing and rotating stock appropriately.
  • Answer incoming calls
  • CLIA Waived Lab Testing/ Quality Control after appropriate training completed.
EDUCATION AND SKILLS
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Prefer those with Biology and / or lab experience.
  • Computer keyboarding experience recommended.
  • At least one year of experience working with the public or demonstrated ability to interface with a diverse group of individuals in a positive, friendly and helpful manner.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions.
Pay Range:
$17.28 - $24.19

Benefits-eligible employees accrue PTO and Personal Time based on hours worked and State worked, totaling 120 hours in the first year for full time staff and 200 hours in the first year for full time supervisors and above, increasing in subsequent years. PTO and Personal Time accruals are pro-rated by FTE/hours worked. Non-benefits eligible employees will accrue Personal Time based on hours worked and State worked.
