The Application Engineer Chapter lead role is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on technologist to grow in people leadership while continuing to apply their proven technical skills on their agile team. Core Responsibilities: As an Application Engineer Chapter lead you will spend about 60% of your time on software development and 40% of your time on coaching and other formal leadership activities to ensure your crew have the support and guidance necessary to succeed in their role and grow in their careers. You will ensure that technical standards and best practices are followed, collaborating with other chapter leads across the product family and beyond. This is a great opportunity to build people leadership expertise and help shape the engineering organization while also contributing significantly toward product development as a hands-on software developer. Hires, evaluates, and supervises crew. Provides guidance and training as necessary to develop crew. Sets performance standards, reviews performance, and makes informed compensation decisions in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures. Works with product leaders and functional leads to ensure adequate development resources are in place in alignment with strategic goals. Provides expert level system analysis, design, development, and implementation of applications and databases. Integrates third party products. Ensures that expected application performance levels are achieved. Identifies potential solutions and approves technical solutions proposed by team members. Elevates complex technical issues to IT experts. Resolves technical problems discovered by testers and internal clients. Responds to and resolves technical issues in a timely manner. Researches issues and performs root cause analysis. Qualifications 5 years of hands-on software development experience in a service-oriented environment using Java. Demonstrated experience in technical leadership, leading diverse and seasoned teams. Acting as a mentor and coach for engineers on the team. Ability to drive long-term design thinking for systems and engineering processes with scalability and maintainability in mind. Demonstrated experience with API design standards, patterns, and frameworks (e.g., REST, GraphQL, OpenAPI, OAuth). Experience in automated unit testing, performance tuning, and end-to-end testing Passionate about event-driven architecture (event brokers, event sourcing, event streams, CQRS and other patterns). Experience with AWS services (ECS, DynamoDB, Lambda, EC2, S3) and cloud engineering best practices. Enthusiasm for product health monitoring in test and production environments using Honeycomb/Splunk and CloudWatch.
