JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Controller is an integral part of the financial planning function within the Finance Department. This position is responsible for overseeing the daily accounting activities of the department, preparation of the monthly financial statements and general ledger management functions. Accounting activities include the management/performance of financial reporting and related reconciliations, grants reporting, and restricted funds management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Management of monthly financial close process including journal entry approval, financial analysis, reconciliations and preparation of monthly financial statements.
- Management of the chart of accounts and participate in design and documentation of financial reporting automated workflows.
- Preparation of 990, 990T (including EADA, NCAA).
- Restricted gift and grant accounting management.
- Fund balances and net assets accounting management.
- Support of annual financial statement audit, federal single audit, state single audit, and 403(b) retirement plan audit.
Required Experience:
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or equivalent experience required.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Experience in accounting or finance field with supervisory responsibilities.
- Not for profit experience preferred.
- Proficiency in excel including pivot tables, and v look-ups.
- Able to function independently while operating effectively within a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to handle complex and multiple tasks in a professional and efficient manner.
- Ability to work under deadlines.
- Exhibits a high level of professionalism, leadership, creative problem solving, diplomacy, negotiation and sales skills, and the ability to manage complex projects with minimal supervision.
- Great interpersonal and communication skills.
- Cultural competency to work with diverse student and/or employee population.
