They must be self-directed, organized, and capable of managing multiple projects with minimal oversight. Experience managing freelance creatives, vendors, or consultants is essential to support storytelling, design, and production needs.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in an entrepreneurial, mission-driven environment and can build infrastructure while executing tasks in real-time.

  • Lead entrepreneur storytelling initiatives through interviews, photography, and video content production (in-house or via contractors)
  • Develop talking points and messaging toolkits for events, media appearances, and leadership engagements

Digital Communications & Social Media

  • Manage OVU’s digital presence and voice across all platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Threads, etc.)
  • Design and implement email marketing campaigns using Mailchimp or similar tools
  • Keep the website (WordPress) updated with fresh content, program updates, and resources
  • Ensure all messaging reflects brand standards and is accessible, inclusive, and tailored to the audience

  • Collaborate with program, development, and operations teams to align messaging and support organizational priorities
  • Manage freelance contractors (designers, videographers, copywriters) and interns as needed
  • Lay the groundwork for a future communications team as the organization grows
  • Represent OVU at events, activations, and in partner communications when needed

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in communications, public relations, or marketing—ideally in a nonprofit, mission-driven, or entrepreneurial setting
  • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills with a portfolio of cross-platform content
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines with limited supervision
  • Self-motivated with a proven ability to work independently and proactively
