What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School English Teacher position at The Webb School?
The Webb School seeks a full-time Middle School English Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. The Webb School’s teachers are living examples of the mission of the school and embrace its Enduring Understandings.
Job Responsibilities:
- Teach 5 sections within the English department.
- Serve as an advisor to 10-12 students
- Serve in the school’s afternoon enrichment or athletic program
- Serve as a support to the residential program as a day faculty with occasional weekend duty
- Sponsor a co-curricular club during the school day for one semester
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Arts in English, or equivalent; a Master’s degree is preferred
- Experience working with middle school students
- Experience in a boarding school is preferred but not required
- A commitment to culturally responsive teaching
- Desire to be actively engaged in all aspects of a boarding school
Characteristics of a successful candidate:
- Teamwork, dependability, flexibility, willingness to listen and learn, problem-solving skills, and congeniality
- A love for teaching middle school students
- Well developed interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with all constituents in a school environment: students, coworkers, and parents
- Willingness to provide continual assessment of student progress and communicate academic performance through the use of reports and online grade books
- Ongoing awareness of developments and research in the field and use of this knowledge to ensure relevant lessons and best practices
- The flexibility to adjust teaching methods to suit different groups of learners
- Experience analyzing the needs, strengths, and weaknesses of students and structuring lessons and assessments around them
- Ability to regularly work flexible hours to support before and after school or weekend events
