Job Description
The Lead Carpenter is a full-time member of TheatreSquared’s production staff, charged with seeing that the technical design is carried out to the Technical Director's specifications. This person will oversee the build and installation of each production. The lead carpenter should be informed on how all scenic elements are built and how they relate to each other. This opportunity offers room for artistic and professional growth as the company continues its new phase in a state-of-the-art, 50,000-square-foot, two-venue home. This position reports to the Technical Director.
Essential Functions
- See that all scenic pieces are built to the specifications of the drawings as provided by the TD
- Orient overhire carpenters to the shop, procedures and safety rules
- Assign projects to any overhire carpenters seeing that the skill set matches the task
- See that the carpenters have what they need to perform their assigned tasks (materials, tools, hardware, expendables, jigs, etc.)
- Lead the installation of the scenery during the load in process
- Attend technical rehearsals as scheduled.
- Keep all shop tools in top performance
- Receive and maintain materials, track stock levels and keep material storage accessible
- Enforce shop safety regulations
- Maintain all theater and shop spaces in a clean, safe and usable manner
Skills and Knowledge Requirements:
- Candidates must have extensive experience in theatrical woodworking, finish carpentry, and stage rigging.
- Extensive experience and knowledge of theatrical procedures, scenic construction, tools
- Experience scenic painting, stage rigging, and decorative welding (flat construction with mechanical tube, etc.).
- Will maintain a safe working environment and execute all work calls under the safety standards set by the Director of Production and Technical Director
- Ability to work flexibly as a team member and present a positive attitude in times of stress.
- Self-motivated, with a mature, positive, and enthusiastic attitude towards the goal of providing the highest quality work possible, in a mutually supportive environment.
- Ability to work at heights from ladders, personnel lifts, and catwalks.
- Ability to lift 50lbs.
- While the typical workday will be standard office hours, given the typical schedule of a theatre company, the position requires the flexibility to work a modified schedule some nights, weekends, and being on call during holiday performances.

Compensation: Hourly, $18-$20/hr, averaging 35-40 hours weekly; overtime paid after 40 hours

Salary : $18 - $20
