THEO has a position available for a Driver / Art Handler.
The essential duty of this role is to conduct removals, collections, deliveries and installations of personal effects, art, and antiques under the management of immediate supervisor.
We are looking for skilled Movers/Handlers/Drivers (Foreman experience preferred) with box truck or Sprinter driving experience, art handling experience is a plus.
This a part-time position, generally working one week on and one week off. The company provides competitive pay. The salary depends on applicant's driving and handling experience.
The successful candidate will have the following attributes:
- Experience in residential moving or art handling industry; packing, handling and installing art on a local and interstate basis (e.g. Interstate Driver, Trailer Driver, OTR Driver experience is applicable for this position)
- Familiarity with paperwork; Bills of Lading, Condition Reports, Inventory, Drivers Logs, etc or the willingness to learn quickly.
- Must be able to lift 80 lbs
- Ability to thrive in a busy environment and a desire to work in the fine art industry
- Experience driving long haul
- Experience in Interstate driving is a plus (OTR)
- Professional appearance and demeanor
Key Responsibilities
- Collections and deliveries on a daily basis while on company time and interstate as needed
- Proper handling of art objects, fragile and artistic material, antique and fine furniture
- Pack artworks for transportation and storage when needed
- Maintain a clean and organized storage facility
- Ensure peak degree of detail and focus on every route
- Handle and control all paperwork when on site or working in the field, including all condition reporting for goods
- Ensure vehicle used is always safe, clean and prepared for the day or trip as required, verify what goods are needed at the start of every day or trip based on the daily trip sheet or trip manifest
- Proper handling, of art objects, fragile and artistic material, antique and fine furniture
- Assist in the loading and unloading of trucks
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Ensure trucks are kept clean, intact and safe for operation, report any damages to Dispatch Manager, do not let crew leave rubbish in the trucks or destroy the interior of the trucks
- Time management of a job
- Always report to work promptly and collect instructions for the day
- Be a proactive leader using your own initiative when required
General
- Ensure compliance with all HR policies and procedures, and all other Company policies and procedures in place
- Adhere to all Health & Safety policies and procedures
- To act at all times in the best interests of THEO and its partners
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
- High school diploma / GED required
- Some years of experience in the art handling industry, packing, or driving on a local and interstate basis
- Some years of logistical, warehousing and moving experience
- An understanding of inventory processes and the ability to handle art and antiques from collection through to installation
- The ability to lead an installation and manage an on-site crew
- The ability to manage installations and train junior art handlers accordingly
- The ability to work as part of a team, as well as working independently under instruction
- Strong leadership skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Some familiarity with OSHA regulations
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Excellent communication and multitasking skills
- Ability to accurately execute detailed paperwork and condition reporting

- Experience with the use of hand trucks, pallet jacks, J-bars, dollies and other standard logistics equipment
- Ability to safely lift up to 100 pounds and maneuver objects of substantial size and weight on a daily basis without damage to object or person, including the ability to push and pull 150 pounds on a dolly or cart
- Ability to stand, walk, squat, bend, kneel, crouch, twist and reach overhead
