Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Needs Aide to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing 1:1 support to a special needs child during academic, therapy, or social enrichment segments of their skilled day program schedule.
This position requires understanding of and compassion for children with special needs, as well as an understanding of special education practices, behavior management techniques, and the unique challenges faced by children with special needs.
Duties
- Direct instructional support: Assisting child with individual learning activities, providing prompts and cues, breaking down complex tasks into smaller steps, and reinforcing concepts taught by the teacher.
- Behavior management: Monitoring student behavior, implementing positive reinforcement strategies, de-escalating disruptive behaviors, and providing consistent redirection as needed.
- Personal care assistance: Helping with physical needs like toileting, feeding, mobility support, and personal hygiene depending on the student's needs.
- Communication support: Facilitating communication between the student and peers or teachers through visual aids, augmentative communication devices, or verbal prompts.
- Classroom adaptations: Modifying activities and materials to suit the student's individual needs, creating a supportive learning environment.
Experience
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
- Experience working with students in preschool or special education settings.
- Proven ability in positive behavior management techniques.
- Familiarity with classroom management practices.
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities across various age groups.
- Strong background in working together with a team.
