Position Summary:
The Hand Bindery Associate is responsible for assembling, inspecting, and finishing printed products using manual processes and small equipment. This role requires strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and adherence to safety and confidentiality standards in a fast-paced production environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret job jackets to determine assembly requirements, quantities, and specifications.
- Inspect finished products for quality, accuracy, and completeness.
- Assemble products using small hand tools and finishing materials.
- Insert or apply accessories (e.g., fasteners, labels) to complete finished products.
- Collate printed materials and perform pack-out according to job specifications.
- Feed, catch, inspect, and pack products from manufacturing equipment.
- Operate small hand finishing equipment (e.g., corner rounders, staplers, shrink-wrap machines).
- Transport materials using power hand trucks or pallet jacks (training provided as needed).
- Provide guidance and task instruction to temporary employees; escalate issues to supervisor.
- Communicate with adjacent shifts to ensure accurate pass-off of information, minimize downtime, and maintain productivity.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including lean manufacturing practices.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned work area and shared bindery space.
- Handle Protected Health Information (PHI) and other confidential materials in compliance with company HIPAA policies; unauthorized use or disclosure may result in disciplinary action.
- Adhere to all company-mandated safety protocols and dress codes, including but not limited to: use of personal protective equipment (PPE), lockout/tagout procedures, walking and working surface standards, machine-specific safety procedures, and fall protection systems (if applicable).
Position Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Strong hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.
- Ability to use small hand tools and perform repetitive manual tasks.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to approximately 35 pounds.
- Comfortable working in a production environment with moderate noise levels and frequent task changes.
