Transportation & Parking Team Lead
Purpose:
The primary role of the Transportation and Parking Team Lead is to coordinate and mentor Monticello’s shuttle bus drivers, develop safe driving techniques, model and train guest service standards, and efficient operations. Essential functions include fleet maintenance, contact with vendors, parking lot management, and ensure drivers provide safe operations and outstanding guest service for daily operations and special events. The Team Lead’s role is also to ensure safe, reliable, efficient, and guest friendly transportation services to and from David M. Rubenstein Visitor Center and Smith Education Center, Monticello, and Montalto, and to serve as a superior guest service provider, offering friendly and engaging exchanges with our guests.
We will look to you to:
- Drive a Foundation shuttle bus for Monticello guests, staff, and special events.
- Serve as the “in-charge” frontline transportation staff member including being part of our Guest Relations Manager on Duty program.
- Assist in the hiring process, arranges team meetings, spearheads departmental safety training and instruction. Evaluates and reviews the driver’s performance.
- Provide leadership and mentoring. Coach our drivers on driver safety, guest service delivery and behaviors both in training and in leading by example.
- Perform routine safety inspections for the shuttle bus fleet. Makes maintenance recommendations to the Manager of Transportation.
- Keep the shuttle bus driver’s area stocked with cleaning supplies and paperwork.
- Track bus registrations/state inspections and coordinate maintenance services accordingly.
- Ensure the cleanliness of the shuttle bus fleet. This means cleaning a bus when necessary and making sure our drivers are maintaining the fleet daily.
- Keep accurate timekeeping.
- Organize and provide shuttle bus driver breaks, ensuring equity of breaks, adherence to Foundation guidelines, and optimal service to our guests.
- Maintain the maintenance database and input repair data for budgeting purposes.
- Maintain shuttle bus driver records including copies of Commercial Driver’s Licenses, Medical Examination Reports, and assist shuttle bus drivers in retaining their CDL.
- Manage guest parking lots every day particularly during periods of peak visitation and during special events.
- Submit invoices for maintenance and supplies for approval to the Manager of Transportation.
- Routinely organize all preventative maintenance inspections, detailing, and cosmetic repairs with the Manager of Transportation.
- Recommend guest service, operational, safety, and maintenance enhancements to the Manager of Transportation.
- Maintain department Club Car utility cart and ensure any Foundation associate who drives it is trained its safe operation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Supervisory skills, including team building and staff mentoring.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger Endorsement or able to complete full CDL training with passenger endorsement.
- Ability to operate a 25-passenger shuttle bus in a safe manner.
- Ability to conduct pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections on Foundation fleet, including accessible lifts
- Ability to use basic automotive cleaning supplies and equipment.
- Knowledge of Commercial Driver’s License changes.
- Basic bus mechanical knowledge needed to assist in describing problems and assisting in diagnosis.
- Proficient in basic computer skills. Must be willing to use email and a cell phone daily.
- Safe driving record (verifiable)
- Exemplary guest service skills
- Ability to interact with diverse populations.
- Basic knowledge of tourism industry and local attractions
- Basic knowledge of Jefferson and Monticello
Physical Demands and Work Considerations:
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule; weekend work required, including holidays.
- Evening and after hours required for special events.
- Must be able to stand outside the bus and drive in inclement weather conditions.
- Must be able to multi-task and perform well under stress.
Education:
- Some college or equivalent work experience
