What are the responsibilities and job description for the R&D TECHNICIAN I position at Thompson Pump?
POSITION OBJECTIVES: Constructs, maintains, and tests mechanical equipment, machinery, and components. Identifies parts for replacement and machines that need new parts and places orders as necessary. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals to perform a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision. Supports the Engineering and Design Group. Typically reports to R&D Tech IV or Engineering Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Use specialized equipment such as tape measure, band saw, oxygen/acetylene cutting torches, hand grinders, drill press, shot blasters, steam cleaner etc.
- Perform basic metalworking duties such as measuring, cutting, grinding, drilling and deburring parts.
- Operate forklift to unload and handle raw materials.
- Maintain test standards and equipment in accordance with ISO procedures.
- Assemble components using basic hand tools.
- Read and follow blueprints and work instructions.
- Welding together parts from raw materials using blueprints
- Perform a wide range of shop duties to support the Engineering Group.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or GED required; graduate of a technical/vocational training program is preferred. Industry Certification Preferred.
- Two years minimum of related R&D Technician experience. Welding experience a plus.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Must be able to read and understand various service manuals, electrical diagrams, and troubleshooting guides

Salary : $33,600 - $42,500
