What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavior Interventionist position at Thornton Elementary School?
General Description of Duties:
Under the direct supervision of the building principal works to implement a safe and effective behavior program throughout the school.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Ability to work collaboratively with all staff and students in grades 1–5, including but not limited to students receiving MTSS tiered levels of instruction.
Strong knowledge of Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) and a willingness to serve on a school-wide PBIS committee.
Ability to personalize, create, and implement positive behavior interventions for students in classrooms, cafeteria, school yards, and arrival and dismissal (buses, etc.).
Candidates must have strong school attendance and be able to commit to a five day-work week.
Maintains and documents disciplinary data and shares data as needed to make informed decisions for positive student outcomes.
Must be able to maintain frequent, meaningful parental communication, and develop proactive partnerships between the student/parent and school district to support academic achievement and pro-social behaviors.
Works cooperatively with building administrators to promote positive student behavior by using strategies and modeling of instructional practices to support teachers in their implementation of positive behavior support in their classrooms. Continually supervise students to ensure a safe, non-threatening, nurturing environment.
Must possess instructional knowledge, experience and the willingness to be CPI certified to implement crisis intervention strategies and serve on the Crisis Intervention Team.
Experience with Restorative Practice techniques preferred and/or willingness to be trained.
Strong working knowledge of culturally responsive strategies and/or being knowledgeable of how cultural differences pertain to discipline.
Ability to attend after school events (Open House, School Dances, PTO Events, Parent Academies, etc.) that relates to the implementation of a positive school-wide PBIS program and positive school culture.
Assists with cafeteria and recess duty as needed and required per the Building Principal.
Reports directly to the Building Principal.
Performs additional duties as per the Building Principal.
