D&A Intervention Specialist

RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Drug & Alcohol and Education

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs intervention services with youth, adults and their families, in a community and/or school-based setting; Works with youth, families, and adults for outreach, education, and training; Must be a self-starter capable of working independently; Must be dependable and work effectively with minimum supervision.

JOB STATUS: Full-Time Non-Exempt

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Collaborates with community organizations or schools for resources and service delivery.
  • Facilitates D/A educational groups, workshops and trainings. Provides individual, group, and/or family intervention.
  • Responsible for a minimum of 25 billable hours each week.
  • Provides drug and alcohol screenings and referrals.
  • Organizes and conducts social, cultural, and recreational activities to promote awareness about substance abuse.
  • Implements recruitment strategies and outreach efforts to high-risk populations.
  • Disseminates ATOD, overdose, and gambling information.
  • Provides consultation to Student Assistance Program (SAP) and/or school-based services as needed.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all client-based information as required by law.
  • Maintains participant records and/or data. Completes monthly, quarterly, and annual reports in a timely manner.
  • Provides transportation for program participants as needed.
  • Performs other related duties and other duties as requested and/or necessary.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains 25 training hours per year.
  • Maintains open communication with supervisor and other staff as it relates to the necessary flow of the job and programs.
  • Aids in the design of educational programs.
  • Continually remains up to date on individual, group, and family counseling techniques and evidence-based curriculums.
  • Maintains community resources to make them available to clients.
  • Possesses and utilizes the ability to relate to problems and special needs of clients.
  • Must possess and utilize excellent verbal and written communication skills and general computer skills, including WORD, EXCEL, Gmail, i. Internet, and other systems.
  • Must have an understanding of the criminal justice system, ATOD pharmacology, FERPA and PPR laws and regulations, and DDAP.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, sit, and walk; use hands; reach with hands and arms. The employee must be capable of lifting or pulling 175 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust and focus. Proper diction and command of the English language required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s Degree preferred; Bachelor Degree in social work, psychology, criminal justice, social science or other related fields, and a minimum of 3 years of experience working with youth, families, and adults or a minimum of 5 years of experience working with youth, families, and adults; Knowledge of the criminal juvenile justice system, the justice system, adult probation, parole is essential. Reliable transportation and a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license, as well as current PA auto insurance, are required.

All required clearances must be current including Act 33/34 Child Abuse Clearance and Pennsylvania Criminal History Clearance, and FBI Clearance.
