Position Summary:
Tidewater Youth Services Commission is seeking a dedicated and compassionate 2nd Chance Reentry Pre-Release Coordinator to support justice-involved youth as they transition back into the community. This position plays a key role in providing mentorship, counseling, and reentry support to youth housed in juvenile detention centers and correctional facilities, with a focus on building strong relationships and guiding participants toward long-term success.
Key Responsibilities:
● Conduct in-person visits to local detention centers and Bon Air Juvenile Correctional Center to interview youth and provide individualized mentorship, counseling, and goal-setting sessions.
● Facilitate one-on-one and small group sessions with Reentry youth to support reentry planning and address the personal, emotional, and behavioral needs of each participant.
● Coordinate closely with parole officers, case managers, mental health clinicians, and other juvenile justice stakeholders to ensure continuity of care and service alignment.
● Track youth progress and maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation in the program’s operational system.
● Prepare and submit weekly and monthly reports that summarize participant engagement, progress, challenges, and program outcomes.
● Monitor individual goals and ensure youth are referred to appropriate community-based services prior to and following release.
● Support the reentry process by helping youth build life skills, identify personal strengths, and develop achievable action plans.
● Participate in local and regional meetings related to youth services and reentry coordination.
● Represent the Second Chance Reentry Program professionally in all community and agency interactions.
Additional Requirements:
This position requires frequent travel to Richmond and surrounding areas, including regular visits to secure juvenile facilities. Candidates must be comfortable working directly with incarcerated youth and collaborating with justice system professionals. Other duties not listed in this description may be assigned as needed to meet the needs of the program.

Qualifications:
● Experience in Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Human Services, or a related field.
● Experience working directly with youth involved in the juvenile justice system.
● Understanding the reentry process and the challenges facing youth in secure confinement.
● Strong communication, counseling, and motivational interviewing skills.
● Ability to coordinate care across multiple agencies and maintain detailed documentation.
● Familiarity with operational data systems and reporting procedures.
● Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regularly within the region.
