DSP: Art Instructor (Full-Time, Part-Time)

Upland Art Studios

Positions open for Studio Practices (2D and 3D), Painting and Drawing, Printmaking, Animation, and specialization on Ceramic Studio Production.

Tierra del Sol Foundation is looking for dedicated and reliable Direct Support Professionals (or DSPs) to play an integral role in supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Upland Art Studios.  

Tierra’s mission is to empower people with disabilities to fulfill their potential and desire to become productive citizens who are accepted, included and valued for the contributions they make to the economic, civic, and cultural vitality of the community. No one plays a more important role in our mission than our DSPs, who work as partners, teachers, ambassadors, advocates, supporters, and so much more to our clients.   

One key group of DSPs are Art Mentors, who assist individuals with the development of their artistic, vocational, social and community-navigation skills toward their individually chosen Art career goals.  

Job tasks include, but are not limited to: 

• Plan and conduct art instructional plans toward individual art career goals
• Plan and conduct community events and involvement, which will assist individuals in achieving their individual Art service plan goals
• Manage class/studio organization tasks such as attendance taking, community forms, supply orders and monitoring safety and cleanliness
• Supervise and direct studio assistants and volunteers in program supports and activities with individuals
• Provide regular feedback for studio assistants and volunteers
• Other duties as assigned

Specific Job Requirements: 

• MFA, BFA, BA degree in the field of Art preferred (equi)
• Ability to effectively guide individuals in professional arts vocational training in the studio and at vocational sites 
• Excellent teaching skills for 2D and 3D art production
• Effective in guiding students in handling a variety of art materials and to master art skills and techniques
• Ability to maintain strong organization of studio area, storage of artworks, and ordering/storing supplies

This is a full-time position. A working lunch agreement will be on file. Hours and duties are subject to change with or without notice. Full-time positions are typically scheduled up to 37 hours per week. Hours and duties are subject to change based on program needs and may include weekends, holidays and evening hours to meet client, employer and stakeholder expectations. Staff will have a 30 minute working lunch when actively supporting clients with a working lunch agreement on file.
