SUMMARY:
The Recreation Manager is a key member of the residence club and hospitality team. The position is responsible for leading the recreation department activities and experiences. In conjunction with the Resort Manager, the Recreation Manager will curate a coordinate a range of cultural programming, indoor, and outdoor activities designed to engage and excite both children and adults. Activities will be inclusive and foster social interaction, learning, and fun.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Essential functions as defined are ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by incumbents within this classification. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Develop a thorough knowledge of the entire property, including, in part, residences, development plans, golf, tennis, and pickleball.
- Evaluate program activities effectiveness and participation levels.
- Maintain recreation inventory and coordinate with Resort Manager for reordering and corporate purchase approvals.
- Knowledge of a wide variety of recreation activities and programs including development and implementation.
- Continually evaluate recreation programs to ensure the needs of the guest and the goals of the department are being met.
- Manage daily operations of the Timbers Adventure Center which will include the fitness center; yoga, Timbers Tykes; pool and lawn games; Farm Hale events; Honor Snack Bar refills; and other special events.
- Develop a solid working knowledge of the SMS, Alice platform, Teams-Up, and FareHarbor for guest activity management.
- Be available for social networking functions with guests and owners including Sunset Sessions, Coconut Tree Planting, and following-up on tree planting owner signs, and other events.
- Coordinate and manage schedules for the Spa Space to ensure optimal use of facilities.
- Assist in developing the budget to ensure cost-effective operations.
Cultural Programming
- Develop, implement, and lead culturally appropriate arts, crafts, active, educational, and enriching activities that owners, members, and guests can participate in or observe. Activities should be fun, engaging, and educational.
Outdoor Activities
- Plan, oversee, and lead onsite and offsite recreation activities, guided and self-guided, (1) outdoor on-site* adventure activities, , nature walks, kayaking, paddleboarding, biking; (2) onsite games and activities such as cornhole, pool volleyball, other lawn, lagoon, and pool interests; and (3) seasonal / special activities and events such as makahiki games, festive seasonal events, guest presenters, or other non-routine activities to enhance owner, member, and guest enjoyment. Ensure activities are safe, enjoyable, and are accessible to a wide range of activity interests, ages, and skill levels.
Pool Services
Oversee recreation attendants who will focus on keeping the pool areas clean, organized, and safe. Overseeing fresh towels are readily available at designated areas. Maintains the pool surrounding areas to the highest standards of cleanliness. Maintain lounge chairs, umbrellas, and water station are carefully arranged and regularly inspected.
Outside Contractors
- Oversee outside contractors and their activities. Current contracted activities include yoga and pool fitness.
Tennis, Pickleball and Farm Site Organization
- Work with Resort Manager on court use reservations.
- Ensure tennis and farm facilities are kept in safe, operating condition.
- Monitor, replace, and/or make recommendations for site maintenance.
- Ensure supplies, including play equipment, safety equipment, food and beverage offerings, etc. are properly stocked and in good condition.
Staff Supervision and Training
- Recruit, train, and manage recreation team to ensure they understand their role and responsibilities.
- Oversee new hire on-boarding process to ensure staff are properly welcomed and trained in their first weeks of introduction.
- Knowledge and adherence to Company’s Core Values and Mission Statement, which are to be shared with the recreation team.
- Provide ongoing training to recreation team members, including health and safety standards, safety protocols, and customer service skills.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to recreation team members to promote development and growth.
- Maintain weekly department schedule to ensure it is within budgeted labor parameters and is adjusted to meet property occupancy levels.
Common goals
- Work with other department managers to ensure property goals are achieved.

QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge and/or skill required.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent; additional education in hospitality management a plus.
- Proven experience in the same or similar role within the hospitality industry.
- Speak, read, and write English.
- Have a current Hawaii driver’s license.
- Have a current CPR/First Aid certification.
- Ability to give attention to detail.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Available to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
- Commitment to excellence and high standards.
- Versatility, flexibility, enthusiasm, and a willingness to work within changing priorities.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills to manage a regular and seasonal team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with team members, owners, and guests.

- Proficient in using standard computer software (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook,)
- Correct business English, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, in person, by video conference, and over the telephone.
