What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patron Access Services Clerk position at Tipton County Public Library?
**THIS POSITION IS 25 HOURS/WEEK**
**NIGHTS (UNTIL 7PM) AND SATURDAYS (UNTIL 3PM) ARE REQUIRED.**
Specific Responsibilities
- Clerical Duties
- Perform clerical duties related to at least one key component of library services within a functional area as assigned by a Library Technical Assistant or management staff (see specific duties below)
- Perform tasks in a given functional area as assigned by the person they report to.
Clerical Duties - Specific Duties
The specific duties listed below are assigned to a clerk by the manager of the functional area. A clerk may be asked to provide some level of support for any of the following specific duties as determined by the manager of the functional area, but will generally be assigned a set of specific duties to focus on.
Patron Access Services
- Branch Operations
- Working with the Patron Access Services Assistant assigned to Windfall, assist in maintaining public areas of the branch
- Provide coverage at the public service desk
- Assist with daily operational tasks including, but not limited to: opening and closing, emptying the drop box, checking in newspapers and periodicals, checking mail, keeping daily patron usage stats, sending faxes, making copies, etc.
- Working with Librarian staff, provide clerical support for public programs at the library’s Windfall location (e.g., stocking supplies, assisting with crafts, putting up displays or bulletin boards, etc.)
- Assist other staff as needed to provide a consistent patron experience across library locations
- Circulation
- Use the integrated library system software to perform circulation functions including, but not limited to: checking material in and out to patrons, creating new library cards, placing holds on library materials, sending notices, etc.
- Provide coverage at public service desks
- Handle cash according to procedures set by the Finance and Benefits Manager
- Reshelve library materials
- Repair and clean print and audio visual materials as needed
- Process items donated to the library per the Materials Donation policy
- Delivery Services
- Assist the Library Technical Assistant with the library’s delivery service, including, but not limited to: preparing items for delivery, checking items in/out, contacting patrons, etc.
- Facilities
- Report issues with library grounds, facilities, or equipment to the person they report to or management
- Interlibrary Loans
- Working with a Library Technical Assistant, assist with the delivery, processing, and circulation of materials borrowed from or loaned to other libraries
- Library Operations
- Report policy violations or emergency situations to a Librarian or Library Technical Assistant or member of the management team immediately
- Working with Librarian staff, provide clerical support for public programs at any location (e.g., stocking supplies, assisting with crafts, putting up displays or bulletin boards, etc.)
- Assist with opening and/or closing the library for business each day
QUALIFICATIONS
- May have high school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
- May have some library experience (preferred)
- May have a librarian certificate
- May have prior work experience (preferred)
