Position Summary

The Medical Coordinator reports directly to the Director Residential Treatment and works as a member of the Residential Treatment Team. The Medical Coordinator at Journey Academy provides support for multiple aspects of youth health and medical care, including supporting medical visits, as well as psychiatry services via telehealth and or in-person at clients medical facility.

Essential Functions

  • Active member of the Tier 2 On Call team providing 24/7 staff support to the Residential Team, including weekends and holidays.
  • Dispense medication and record in medication logs.
  • Schedule and attend medical, dental, vision, psychiatry and specialty appointments.
  • Prepare all Electronic Medication Administration Records (eMARs) for residents.
  • Provide ongoing coordination of pharmacy communications, prescription pick-up, medication inventory, and relay information from youth and staff to medical providers and team members.
  • Train all Residential Counselors on Residential Medications, including how to administer and dispense medications to residents.
  • Communicate with TLC team members and medical providers as needed
  • Provide direct supervision of youth as a back-up to Residential Counselors as needed.
  • Maintain accurate communication and medication log documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Familiarity with use of web-based technology including email, video visit technology, and electronic medical record.
  • Ability to exercise positive, effective, trauma-informed communication with youth.
  • Able to communicate with law enforcement personnel, school officials, counselors,
  • and other community agencies in a positive and supportive manner.
  • Able to take direction and be open to feedback.
  • Ability to make decisions and be calm in crisis situations.
  • Ability to display appropriate personal and professional boundaries.
  • Desire and ability to function as a part of an interdisciplinary team including mental health providers and general medical providers.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning about youths medical needs to support duties above.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, or equivalent, is required. Bachelors degree preferred.
  • Prior work in a Residential Treatment Center for youth.
  • Valid California drivers license with an acceptable driving record and auto insurance showing the employee as an insured driver on the policy.
  • Obtain and maintain fingerprint, government and agency required background clearances, without additional exemptions.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical exam, TB and drug screen.
  • Valid California drivers license with an acceptable driving record and auto insurance showing employee as an insured driver on the policy.
  • All employees will be required to familiarize themselves with a variety of written material that coincides with TLC Child and Family Services philosophic orientation toward youth and their treatment needs.
