What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transaction Tax Specialist position at TMS International?
The Transaction Tax Specialist is primarily responsible to prepare and maintain compliance for sales and use, personal property and real estate tax accounting and compliance as well as other miscellaneous tax compliance, registration and audits assistance. The Transaction Tax Specialist will report directly to the Transaction Tax Manager.
Responsibilities:
* Prepare and/or review sales and use tax returns for U.S. and Canda
* Oversee personal property and carline tax returns
* Prepare personal property tax and carline payments and reconciliations
* Prepare and/or review business licenses
* Assist & prepare quarterly transaction returns
* Prepare the property tax budget calculations and accrual true ups for review.
* Prepare exemption certificates to be submitted to vendors for exempt purchases.
* Review & manage customer exemption certificate maintenance
* Review all tax notices for sales and use tax, property & other misc. taxes
* Assist with sales tax research, system maintenance, vertex compliance
* Assist with Sales and Use Tax and Personal Property Tax Audits
* Assist with Managing Tax Calendar
* Assist with other Taxes & Tax Notices and Responses
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates degree in accounting, or 3 years relevant tax experience (Big 4 Experience and Industry Experience a plus).
- 2-5 years of extensive Sales and Use Tax Experience.
- 1 year of Personal Property Tax Experience preferred
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point.
- Experience with Sales Tax Software, Property, Exemption Certificate, and other systems (Research Tools, Power BI, Microsoft AX, Vertex, Control Point, Checkpoint and QlikView) preferred.
- Excellent communication skills
- Must be able to meet prospective deadlines timely and efficiently.
