Primary Role:
The Assistant Principal of Student Discipline & Safety is a key member of the school’s administrative team, supporting the principal in fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment. This role oversees student discipline systems, school safety protocols, and behavioral interventions while working closely with staff, students, and families to promote positive student behavior and well-being.
Qualifications:
- B.A./B.S. degree from an accredited institution in education and/or a related field
- A Master’s Degree in education or administration is a plus
- 3 years of experience in teaching or school administration
- Experience in successfully implementing a PBIS (or related) plan is a plus
- Possession of a current North Carolina Professional Educator’s License

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Schoolwide Discipline System

Develop and maintain a consistent, equitable schoolwide discipline framework aligned with the Student Code of Conduct.

Train staff in behavior expectations, referral procedures, and tiered intervention systems.
2. Incentive Programs
-
Create and manage school-wide incentive programs to promote positive behavior and reduce discipline issues.
3. Behavioral Interventions & MTSS
-
Coordinate Tier 2 and Tier 3 behavior supports in collaboration with counselors, behavior specialists, and teachers.

Lead or co-lead the Behavior MTSS Team, ensuring documentation, intervention plans, and progress monitoring.
4. Restorative Practices
-
Implement restorative approaches such as circles, mediations, and re-entry meetings.

Train and support staff in using restorative techniques to prevent and respond to misconduct.
5. Discipline Data & Analysis
-
Track behavioral incidents, suspension/expulsion data, and trends by subgroup and grade level.

Use data to refine practices, inform decision-making, and reduce disproportionality in discipline.
6. Parent Communication & Conferences
-
Lead parent conferences for significant behavioral infractions.

Ensure timely and professional communication about consequences, supports, and follow-ups.
7. Campus Supervision & Visibility
-
Coordinate and monitor hallway, cafeteria, arrival/dismissal, and restroom supervision schedules.

Maintain high visibility during key transitions and in common areas to ensure student safety.
8. Emergency Preparedness
-
Oversee school safety drills (fire, lockdown, shelter-in-place) in compliance with state guidelines.

Ensure staff are trained in emergency protocols and crisis response plans.
9. School Safety Plan & Threat Assessment

Maintain the school’s comprehensive safety plan in collaboration with district and law enforcement partners.

Lead or participate in Threat Assessment and Crisis Response Teams as required.
10. Security Partnerships
-
Serve as the primary contact for School Resource Officers (SROs), security staff, and law enforcement agencies.

Coordinate security coverage for afterschool events, high-risk days, and athletic functions as needed.
11. Staff Training & Support
-
Provide training on de-escalation strategies, classroom management, and legal updates (e.g., restraint laws, suspension limitations).

Offer coaching and support to teachers working with high-need students or classroom management concerns.
12. Student Re-entry & Support Plans
-
Coordinate re-entry meetings for students returning from suspension, behavior contracts, or crisis events.

Align support plans with counseling and academic staff to ensure student success.
13. Crisis Management

Serve as a key member of the school’s crisis response team for student incidents, community trauma, or critical threats.

Collaborate with counselors and the AP of College Readiness & School Culture to support student well-being post-crisis.
