Purpose Statement
The job of Internal Security Supervisor is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process with specific responsibilities for supervising, evaluated, and directing security staff; identifying and addressing potential safety concerns; maintaining safety at school sites by enforcing disciplinary policies and regulations; communicating information and responding to inquiries; coordinating with law enforcement; and providing emergency care to students and other individuals; and performing back-up functions in the absence of the Director of Safety and Security.

Pay
$21.70 - $27.22 per hour (based on relevant work experience)
Essential Functions
- Administers first aid to students, staff and/or visitors (e.g. medical incidents, fight injuries, etc.) for the purpose of providing immediate emergency medical care.
- Communicates safety and security policies and enforcement procedures to students, staff and visitors for the purpose of ensuring their understanding of such information and the potential consequences of violation.
- Conducts initial investigation in response to calls or concerns for the purpose of determining if the elements of crime have occurred.
- Confers with teachers and other staff for the purpose of assisting in evaluating student behaviors and/or making referrals.
- Coordinates with building principals for the purpose of addressing safety and security concerns at their schools.
- Delivers messages to students and teachers throughout the building for the purpose of communicating information to and from parents, students, and staff.
- Demonstrates knowledge and operation of security system cameras for the purpose of ensuring the safety of students, parents, and staff.
- Escorts students, assigned personnel and/or visitors (e.g. between facilities, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring personal and site security.
- Interacts with students for the purpose of educating students.
- Maintains proficiency with duty sidearm and is able to qualify no less than annually with sidearm for the purpose of maintaining certification as a commissioned private officer by the KCPD.
- Monitors student behavior during and between assigned periods and at student events (e.g. sports activities and other district events, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring student compliance with established guidelines, regulatory requirements, maintaining a safe and positive learning environment, and secure facility.
- Participates in unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
- Participates as a crisis team member for the purpose of ensuring the safety of students, parents, and staff.
- Patrols school facilities (e.g. grounds, roads, buildings, adjacent areas, parking lots, etc.) for the purpose of providing visibility, maintaining security, and deterring criminal activities.
- Performs back-up functions in the absence of the Director of Safety and Security for the purpose of ensuring efficient and effective functioning of the department.
- Prepares and delivers job performance evaluations of assigned personnel for the purpose of ensuring compliance with Board policy.
- Prepares a variety of documents (e.g. incident reports, activity logs, procedures, etc.) for the purpose of record keeping, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
- Provides traffic and parking control (e.g. designs traffic patterns for district buildings, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining efficient traffic flow and use of parking lot/s.
- Responds to potential campus crimes and/or student related community incidents for the purpose of resolving conflicts, taking appropriate action, initiating a police response, and/or referring to outside agency for resolution.
- Responds to campus security inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. teachers, parents, administrators, office staff, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, and providing information and/or direction.
- Responds to a variety of situations (e.g. accidents, injuries, vandalism, suspicious activities, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of taking the appropriate action to resolve immediate safety and/or security concerns.
- Schedules security for requested after-jour school events for the purpose of ensuring coverage.
- Supervises student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Supervises and directs the workflow and priorities of assigned safety and security personnel for the purpose of ensuring swift response.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: safety practices and procedures, student behavior, and instructional strategies.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather and/or collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; working as part of a team; working with frequent interruptions.

Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and some fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 75% sitting, 15% walking, 10% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and in a generally hazard free environment.
Experience: Job related experience within a specialized field is required.
