Education Director

Assists and supports the director and staff in the provision of quality early education and child care for children. Establishes and maintains a program that offers positive experiences for the children, families and communities served within the academy.

Essential Duties: Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Program Quality

· Education Director focus are classroom environment, STARS, PD training, curriculum, lesson planning, teacher teams quality improvement, CLASS, children outcomes, working with outside resources to assist children with transition.

· Oversees the daily maintenance of classroom management, including but not limited to:

  • The maintenance of required classroom group sizes and ratios.
  • Classroom daily schedules (classroom experiences and staff schedules).
  • Ensures all children receive enriching educational programming with a focus on positive experiences and child outcomes. This consists of the frequent informal and formal assessment of all aspects of educational programming, including but not limited to classroom environment and management; curricular planning, implementation, and assessment; individualization; family-centered practices; and educational resource provisions (e.g. support professionals, enrichment programming and field trips).
  • Knows, articulates and remains current of best practices in professional development, early childhood education, etc.
  • Understands and is mindful how personal appearances, dress, use of body language and the voice tone impact the presentation, the environment, and how staff, children and families engage.
  • Works in conjunction with academy teaching staff and the academy director to ensure adequate supplies, equipment and resources are available.
  • Ensure the oversight of the quality rating improvement system (QRIS) for the academy to ensure the obtainment and maintenance of the highest quality credentialing.

Process

· Oversees academy’s educational environment and programming including but not limited to:

  • Providing necessary curriculum documents and resources.
  • Observes classrooms on a daily basis and provides feedback to assist environment and staff
  • Reviewing, providing feedback and assessing classroom and academy educational environments.
  • Reviewing, providing feedback and observing planned experiences for the children.
  • Providing necessary child and curricular assessment documents and resources.
  • Reviewing, providing feedback and assisting teaching staff in the reflection of curricular, environmental and child assessments (formal as well as informal).
  • Assisting teaching staff in the provision of individualized programming and differentiated instruction.
  • Focusing on and understanding the creation and orientation of children to an appropriate learning environment, including preparing the room, greeting children, engaging children in cooperative learning, and addressing the learners’ social, emotional and comfort needs.
  • Creating a positive and encouraging climate of diversity for ideas, questions and learning.
  • Oversees classroom transition processes for all enrolled children and families including transition into the classroom upon enrollment, transition to and from different classrooms within the center, and transition out of the center for exiting children and families.

Team

· Education director will lead the education meetings, in conjunction with the director and mentor teachers (if applicable).

  • Oversees teaching staff professional development planning including, but not limited to:
  • New teaching staff on-boarding and mentoring.
  • Planning all teach staff’s annual practice reviews and professional development (in conjunction with director).
  • Frequent staff training via staff meetings, PA Keys, Better Kid Care or outside agencies.
  • Working with instructional specialist to plan and facilitate regional in-service events/trainings.
  • Maintaining staff professional development files.
  • Motivates staff by maintaining a positive attitude and leading by example.
  • Assists in the creation of a positive, enjoyable work environment, maintaining confidentiality, encouraging trust and loyalty among all academy employees.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements
As a highly professional individual, you will work in conjunction with the director to ensure the center provides developmentally appropriate experiences for all children and families, strives for excellence in the obtainment of recognized state and national accreditation and quality credentials, and incorporates Today’s Child Learning Center purpose, organizational goals, values and policies into daily programming. Your primary focus will be the overall educational and child care experiences for children and families as well as the development of positive and supportive relationships with center teaching staff. An effective education director must be an advocate for all children and families; passionate about developmentally appropriate early education and care; connected to educational networks and organizations; committed to continuous professional development; and have the following education, experience and abilities:

  • Minimum of an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or related field (child development, special education, elementary education or human service field with 30 ECE credits).
  • Minimum of three-five years of documented early educational teaching experience. Experience must include: classroom management; curricular planning and implementation; environmental and child assessment; and family involvement practices.
  • Experience in teacher training and mentoring; current state training certification is preferred.
  • Demonstrated communication skills, including expressive (written and oral) as well as receptive skills.
  • Ability to creatively think about early educational programming to ensure that all academy experiences relate to the diverse families and communities served.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently, as well as collaboratively, make appropriate and rational judgments and decisions, reason effectively and solve problems.
  • Ability to frequently lift or move weight as in lifting, carrying or holding children and infants of 10-60 lbs.
  • Ability to effectively read, write and communicate the English language.
