A Classroom Assistant is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe environment where children can reach the next milestone in their development. With the help of the lead teacher, they tend to the daily needs of children ages 3 through 5, plan lessons, record observation and assessments, ensure and monitor plan family involvement, and attend educational field trips.
EDUCATION
- Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education/Education or related field with 30 credits in ECE and/or a CDA.
- Enrolled in an educational institute to obtain a degree or credential within 2 years of hire date.
EXPERIENCE
- 2 - 4 years in an early childhood education setting
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure the safety, well being and supervision of all children in your assigned classroom
- Adhere to all DHS regulations, Head Start standards, STARS standards, and Today’s Child Learning Centers’ policies and procedures
- Assist with the setup and maintenance of the classroom centers on a daily basis
- Greet the parents and children as they enter your classroom each day
- Create weekly Lesson Plans and turn over to the Head Start Coordinator
- Collect items needed to carry out Lesson Plans prior to the week they are needed
- Teach to children the weekly theme utilizing the Lesson Plan and following the Daily Schedule
- Observe and evaluate the children, keeping detailed records and work sampling
- Input assessment data for each child, on-line, three times per year by the appropriate deadline
- Conduct Parent/Teacher conferences three times per year with the Lead Teacher
- Participate in monthly Staff Meetings and special events held at center
- Complete daily Attendance and Meal Sheets
- Assist in the monitoring of the parent volunteer log
- Participate in trainings and continuing education classes, ensuring you are taking the required amount of annual yearly training hours and topics
- Interact with Parents, addressing concerns and providing support
- Report to work on time each day, and with a positive attitude
- Sign in and out upon arrival, at the start and end of scheduled break and upon departure at end of day
- Perform daily health checks of children, reporting to Director any concerns, including those of child abuse or neglect
- Write Incident Reports when a child is hurt, submit to Director for review before distributing
- Participate in Emergency Preparedness and Fire Drills
- Attend to the physical needs of the children
- Be flexible regarding your classroom assignment and schedule
- Keep your classroom clean and empty trash at end of your shift
- All other duties as assigned
