What are the responsibilities and job description for the Treatment Operator Trainee position at Toho Water Authority?

General Description

The purpose of this position is to perform process control, advanced wastewater treatment plant maintenance, and other various certified operations. This is accomplished by performing inspections of plants and well field equipment; determining all machinery systems and components operate properly; obtaining equipment hour meter readings and samples; overseeing equipment; analyzing plant production; maintaining records; and overseeing SCADA systems. Other duties include adjusting controls when necessary; notifying supervisor of adjusting or equipment in need of repair; developing routine reports; performing mechanical maintenance; ensuring the facility is maintained; obtaining samples; and maintaining relationships with customers and the community.

Essential Functions

  • Performs all operational procedures by checking clarifier blankets; obtaining samples; checking equipment; performing inspections on SCADA communications; cleaning channels or splitter boxes; checking water plants and other facilities; performing preventive maintenance; and administering plant tours.
  • Communicates with customers and community by sending daily emails; creating reports and facility updates; recording all calibrations of meters or analyzers; inputting data in OPS PAC; developing work orders; directing team meetings; and communicating with bio-solids staff, vendors, and visitors.
  • Performs all housekeeping duties by hosing down areas with debris; addressing safety concerns; checking for proper drainage; painting; disposing of trash; assisting with landscaping or beautification projects; and ensuring the facility is maintained.
  • Collects samples for analysis by using gloves and caution in sampling areas; managing sampling containers carefully; avoiding contaminations; fulfilling chain of custody forms; and obtaining all information for chain of custody forms.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED issued from an approved GED Administrator.
  • This is an entry level position, previous relevant work experience is preferred but not required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Class E Driver's License.
  • As a condition of employment, must obtain Class A Driver's License within the first six months of employment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk to a significant degree; use hands to operate tools or feel, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to pull, push, kneel, bend, squat, crawl, and twist. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Environmental factors include outdoor conditions; rugged terrain, slippery surfaces, varying weather, including, heat, cold, dry, wet weather. In addition, noise, darkness, brightness, vibrations, traffic, biological agents, chemicals, gas/ fumes, magnetic fields, or congested area. Environmental factors include indoor, flat surface, noise, sitting with occasionally walking and standing.
