Title: Lab Technician
Department: Inspection
Status: Hourly (Non-Exempt)
Schedules: Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm

SUMMARY:
Function: Analyzing samples in a high-volume chemical manufacturing facility for composition, impurities and functional characteristics. Operates and maintains analytical chemistry instruments and tools.
Scope: Responsible for analyzing samples in a timely manner in a manufacturing environment.
EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of a 2-Year AA Degree in Chemistry or equivalent education.
REQUIRED PERSONAL SKILLS:
1. Ability to work in a team safely
2. Ability to maintain ISO document and record control.
3. Ability to effectively communicate in English (both oral and written).
4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
5. Have stable, verifiable work history with excellent attendance record.
6. Must be comfortable working with chemicals including, but not limited to, corrosives and organic solvents.
DUTIES:
Typical
· Prepares and analyzes samples using analytical instruments and tools.
· Operation, Maintenance, and installation of new analytical instruments and tools.
· Monitors reagent and testing supplies.
· Standard qualification.
· Performs MSA studies for validation of analytical testing methods.
· Monitor product trends according to Western Electric Trend rules.
· Writes SOPs, Data, and Forms according to ISO standards.
· Performs cleaning and organizing of all inspection areas according to 5S standards.
· Proper handling and disposal of hazardous waste.
· Continuous quality improvement as related to ISO 9001.
· Performs other necessary duties and tasks as requested.
Periodical
- Attending annual and/or quarterly refresher courses related to hazardous waste management and handling, general safety, quality management, and environmental management
- Maintaining quality records.
SUPERVISION:
Receives: Direction is provided by the Metrology department Management Team. (Manager and/or General Manager). Completed work is reviewed for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with the established guidelines.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
There is a potential for exposure to hazardous conditions and/or materials. Must be willing to wear appropriate PPE as needed. Position may involve strenuous activities such as walking, bending, lifting, and moving of material.
OTHER:
Personnel must successfully complete a program of on-site classroom instruction or on-the-job training that teaches them to perform their duties in a way that ensures compliance with all job requirements. Prior experience and/or certification that can be verified will be considered in evaluating training requirements.
Additional tasks, as assigned related to smooth facility operations many include but are not limited to, support of the Environmental Health and Safety Committee and active promotion of safety and pollution prevention activities.
FURTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:
May need to be able to work long hours as directed by Manager.
May need to be able to work various shifts as directed by Manager.
Must have a reliable means of transportation to and from the work site.
