Organization

Touching the Earth Land Company LLC is the parent company to Touching the Earth Farm, and provides payroll and Human Resource Services. Management and supervision will be provided by the core team. We are a Regenerative Tropical Fruit Tree Farm with a focus on building healthy soil and communities.

Job Description

The Orchard Manager will be responsible for the overall management of orchard operations, including planting, cultivation, harvesting, maintenance of fruit trees, sales & marketing. This role requires a combination of horticultural expertise, leadership skills, and a strong commitment to achieving high standards of quality and productivity.

Essential Functions

  • Operational Management
  • Oversee daily operations of the orchard, including planting, pruning, pest management, irrigation, and harvesting.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance fruit yield, quality, and overall orchard performance including watering, weeding, applying natural organic fertilizers, & mulching
  • Ensure compliance with all agricultural regulations, including pesticide application and safety protocols.
  • Manage vermi- compost and soil amendment production, Maintain tidy work spaces, value-add activities and moving materials and products.
  • Crop Management
  • Monitor tree health and implement preventive measures for disease and pest control, applying OMRI approved insecticides as needed
  • Develop and execute fertilization and irrigation plans tailored to the orchard’s needs.
  • Track crop development and manage the timing of harvesting to maximize fruit quality and quantity.
  • Record Keeping and Reporting
  • Maintain accurate records of orchard activities, including planting dates, pest control measures, and harvest yields.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on orchard performance and productivity to senior management.
  • Sustainability and Customer Relations
  • Promote and implement sustainable farming practices to minimize environmental impact.
  • Stay updated on the latest horticultural trends and technologies to enhance orchard operations.
  • Coordinate with marketing and sales teams to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality produce.
  • Develop relationships with buyers and suppliers to support the orchard’s commercial goals.
  • Performs farm labor tasks in a safe, efficient and effective manner as per Farm training and guidelines.
  • Assists with farm operations and public events
  • Maintains highest levels of professionalism and courtesy when interacting with other team members, guests, and visitors
  • Other varied duties as needed for farm operations.

Ideal Qualities

  • Strong knowledge of fruit tree cultivation, pest management, and irrigation systems.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions under pressure.
  • Proficiency with farm management software and technology.
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor and work in various weather conditions.
  • A passion for sustainable agriculture and a commitment to quality.
  • The candidate should be able to lift up to 50 lb and be able to spend most of the day on their feet moving around the farm.
  • Skilled in chainsaw operation
  • Basic tree climbing abilities
  • Chipper experience

Education & Experience

  • Proven experience (5 years) in landscaping, orchard management or a similar agricultural role.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
