What are the responsibilities and job description for the Periodontal Clinical Faculty position at Touro University New York?
Overview:
Directly reporting to the Director of Periodontics at the Touro College of Dental Medicine, the Periodontal Clinical Faculty are responsible for initiating and guiding student doctor/patient interaction and assisting in transition to clinical practice.
Responsibilities:
- In the case of the community practices, aid in the continual review of student rosters.
- In the case of the clinical practices, arrive prior to clinical start, provide guidance and direction in care of patients by monitoring student performance, treatment planning, and progress.
- Model and advise students on professionalism and patient management techniques.
- Assist in solving patient related problems

Assist their CPL or Director in the review within their clinical practice, each student's performance related to:
- Quality and quantity of clinical care.
- Each student's practice and patient resources.
- Each student's individual roster and group progress.
- Student's ability to establish and reach patient treatment goals.
- Determination of individual student needs and related time utilization.
- Assuring accuracy of notes, charges, Preparedness, Professionalism, Promptness and their subsequent approval.
- Discharging and transferring clinical responsibilities if needing to leave prior to the end of the clinical session to your CPL/Director.
- Monitoring unapproved notes and treatments on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, and signed by each CPL.
- Report instances of misconduct to their CPL or Director.

Maintaining calibration as determined by the Director of Clinical Education as well as
- Ensuring the clinical protocols are being followed in their clinical areas.
- Infection Control Compliance
- Complete Reviews of student activity upon request.
- Aid in supervision of Clinical Formative and Summative Examination Process
- Attend periodic meetings with their specific CPL and attend clinical faculty meetings, including Faculty Forum.
- Membership, if appointed, on relevant Clinical Committees.
- Current Clinical Practice Leaders include the following practice sites: Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Orange, Sullivan, Dutchess
- ** Current Directors include the following practice sites: Oral Surgery, Endodontics, Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Periodontics, Intake. Radiology, Anesthesia August 2021
Education/Experience
- Doctor of Dental Surgery in Dental Surgery required.
- Requirements include a D.D.S./DMD from a CODA-accredited dental school or equivalent, Certificate of training from an ADA-accredited AEGD or GPR program, or other advanced degrees and previous teaching experience. The applicant must be eligible for licensure in New York State. This position requires compliance with Touro's Vaccine Mandate policy.
