Horticulture Crew Member (Full Time)

Tower Grove Park is known for its unique, historic Victorian architecture, its extensive network of trails, and its signature community events and activities such as the Farmer’s Market and the Festival of Nations. However, one of the main attractions for our 2.5 million annual visitors is the 289 acres of green open spaces and woodlands that serve as a natural oasis in the middle of a densely populated, diverse urban area. The living landscape of Tower Grove Park includes 6,900 trees, hundreds of varieties of woody shrubs, stunning horticulture, and many acres of grassy turf in which Park visitors can relax, socialize, exercise, study, and enjoy nature.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

• Work with teammates to plant and maintain annuals into display beds and urns. Work in a safe and hazard free work zone while following all PPE requirements and safety instructions given by a supervisor.
• Heavy lifting, mulching, digging and basic manual labor.
• Operate tractors, pruning equipment, backpack blower, water wagon, rototiller, and truck with a trailer attached.
• General cleaning and sanitization of greenhouse and equipment.
• Detail-orientated landscape maintenance including weeding, deadheading, and pruning.

Tower Grove Park is seeking a team member who enjoys being outside working with their hands, is willing and excited to learn, and seeks a career in public green space management. The successful applicant will also be organized, reliable and demonstrate attention to detail while maintaining a professional presentation and enthusiastic attitude.

The hours of operation are Monday through Friday 6:30am-3:00pm. Some weekend hours will be required in support of the operation of the park but may average about 3 weekends per picnic season.

This position will report directly to the Horticulture Supervisor.

WAGES & BENEFITS

Hourly pay is $15.00 per hour. This position is nonexempt with some overtime hours available.

In addition to emergency response operations, some weekend hours will be required in support of the operation of the Park but average about 3 weekends per picnic season (March – November). This position will report directly to the Horticulture Supervisor.

This position includes exposure to a wide variety of outdoor working conditions, including but not limited to dust, snow, rain, working at heights, and physical hazards associated with working in this environment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants are required to pass pre-employment drug (excluding THC) and background checks, must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver’s license. The ability to lift 50lbs is required.
