Lower School Spanish Teacher
Tower Hill School is seeking a Lower School Spanish Teacher to begin in August 2024. The Tower Hill Language Department adheres to a communicative and student-centered approach to modern language instruction. Candidates must possess native or near-native proficiency in Spanish, be able to teach beginner level courses to students in our Preschool through 4th grades, and show a commitment to and comfort with maximizing the use of the target language in the classroom. In addition to expertise in language teaching, the ideal candidate demonstrates a cultural awareness that encompasses the complex historical, political, and social realities of the non English-speaking world. This is a full-time, benefitted, 10-month position.
Responsibilities:

Teaching Lower School Spanish classes

Collaborating regularly with language department colleagues to evaluate pacing and curriculum

Assisting with student supervision and chaperoning outside the classroom

Completing skill based progress reports twice/year
-
Utilizing a variety of pedagogical approaches and instructional technologies to enhance students’ language acquisition and cultural competence

Participating in department and faculty meetings
Qualifications
Desired credentials, qualities, and skills:

Experience and demonstrated interest in teaching Elementary age students

Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, Education, or related field
-
Experience teaching Spanish at the elementary or secondary level (three or more years of teaching experience preferred)

Willingness to learn about and follow the standards of FLES programs

Ability to manage and oversee a busy classroom

Sensitivity to the developmental stages and well-being of children

Excellent organizational and time management skills

Experience with a variety of digital media and interactive teaching tools

Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively

Strong communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal
