ABOUT THIS POSITION:

EXPECTED HIRING RANGE: $39,593.00 - 48,500.00

WORK LOCATION: Town Hall, 73 Hunter Street, Apex, NC 27502

SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm, (Remote or hybrid option available after successful completion of probation)

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

An employee in this position performs paraprofessional level accountant work in the examination, verification, reconciliation, and analysis of fiscal records and reports. The employee works independently and performs various duties as required. Work is performed in accordance with established municipal finance procedures, local ordinances and the North Carolina General Statutes governing the responsibilities of local government financial operations.

This position reports to the Accounting and Financial Reporting Manager.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

A SAMPLE OF THE ESSENTIALS:

  • Prepares and manages the timely completion of various statutory and other required reports to regulatory agencies and assists in the Town’s annual financial reporting.
  • Prepares a variety of journal entries.
  • Serves as back-up for the review of daily revenue collections reports; reconciliation and approval of associated journal entries.
  • Reconciles various balance sheet accounts, including but not limited to prepaids, bid bonds, and various miscellaneous liabilities and prepares reclass/adjusting journal entries as needed.
  • Assists with month-end and year-end activities, the annual audit, and the preparation of the ACFR, responding to questions, providing requested information, preparing spreadsheets and researching accounts and general ledger entries.
  • Prepares monthly budget report for major funds.
  • Responsible for aggregating statistics related to finance workload and reports on this monthly.
  • Assists with accounts payable payment process.
  • Assists with the analysis and review of procurement card transactions for the Town.
  • Assists with maintenance of active grant listing.
  • Serves as back-up to or in the absence of other staff.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field and one (1) to three (3) years of accounting experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

WITH...

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, practices, objectives and methods of accounting in municipal administration, and of federal, state, and local laws and policies governing fiscal operations.
  • Considerable knowledge of computer applications and operations including spreadsheets and data base management.
  • Considerable knowledge of computer operations and applications related to budgeting and accounting.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data, prepare clear and concise reports, and to use a variety of computer programs for the maintenance of accounting and other fiscal records.
  • Ability to make arithmetic computations accurately and with reasonable speed.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare a variety of reports.
  • Ability to verify accounting and other financial documents and forms for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
