The Roads, Buildings and Fleet Maintenance Worker I has a full understanding of the safe application or operation of light or heavy equipment and performs routine, semi-skilled to skilled work in the maintenance and construction of streets and ROW Management, traffic control signs, striping, building maintenance and fleet maintenance and repair. The position performs the full range of work assigned to this class and works with significant independence and initiative.

Salary Range:
$46,299 - $63,671 plus benefits package.

Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Services and inspects assigned equipment. Maintains service and operator use records.
· Advises supervisor on operating conditions and equipment reports needed for mechanical adjustment and repair.
· Assists in identifying areas needing improvement. Identifies upcoming projects and needed work.
· Performs manual operation in street maintenance, including breaking and removing pavement, saw cutting, crack sealing, concrete repair, digging, shoveling, loading and hauling soils, sand, gravel, and cement.
· Performs flagging and controls traffic with related safety functions at job sites.
· Completes snow and ice removal from streets and gutters and applications of salt/sand as needed during on-call times in the winter months.
· Runs personal snow route during snow and ice removal procedures.
· Performs street sweeping and cleaning.
· Performs basic construction, repairs, maintenance and cleans drainage structures. Inspects and clears obstructions from storm drains.
· Orders supplies for specific projects associated with the job.
· Cleans debris from streets, gutters, sidewalks, alleys, Town Property and ROW.
· Completes trash removal and pickup from town receptacles and ROW.
· Listens to and reports citizen inquiries and concerns to supervisor.
· Cleans work area, the shop, tools, equipment, vehicles and grounds.
· Responds to support for special events, such as Town Cleanup Day, Bennett Days, etc.
· Responds to after-hour emergency calls in accordance with department policies.
· Reads and interprets plans, maps, diagrams and construction drawings.
· Maintains detailed and accurate records.
· Performs Smartsheet, GIS, Caselle, Cemetery, etc. items or other Town Programs related to the department as well as updates records.
· Checks emails, calendar invites and phone communication to ensure proper communication with Town staff.
· Serves on-call as required.
· Other duties as assigned, including assisting other departments when needed.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
· Traffic laws, ordinances and rules involved in heavy equipment operations to comply with local, state and federal regulations.
· Methods, tools, related equipment, and necessary safety precautions used in Public Works operations.
· Use and operation of relevant office equipment.
· Local government services and administration.
· Customer service needs and the delivery of those services.
Ability to:
· Ability to operate Street Sweeper and Heavy Equipment
· Perform Routine Maintenance and Repairs with minimal supervision
· Ability to understand and interpret plans, maps, diagrams and construction drawings
· Perform snow removal duty with minimal or no supervision and can run a snow route.
· Ability to safely use, mix and apply job specific chemicals and products as needed
· Ability to successfully use Smartsheet, GIS, Caselle, or other Town Programs related to your department as well as updating records.
· Ability to cross-train between all divisions of public works.
· Understand documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, plans and specifications.
· Complete and follow through on paperwork in a timely manner.

Education or Formal Training:
High school diploma or GED. Minimum of two years of manual labor or mechanical maintenance and repair experience, one year of public works experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preference given to candidates with heavy equipment operating experience.
Certificates and Licenses:
Valid Colorado’s Driver’s License.
Flagger certification or ability to obtain within three months of employment.
Work Environment:
General environment for a public works department. Work may include being outside in inclement weather and being around hazardous chemicals. The job regularly requires the operation of heavy machinery and manual labor. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
