The Town of Brookline Recreation Department is seeking qualified, energetic, and compassionate candidates for full-time seasonal positions for Nature Camp in Summer 2023. Nature Camp programs will run from July 10, 2023 to August 25, 2023 at two locations (Eliot Recreation Center and Soule Early Childhood Center) in Brookline, MA. Counselors are required to attend three days of mandatory training during the week of June 26 and one day of training on July 7, with specific schedules to be determined. All candidates will go through a background check through the Criminal and Sexual offender (CORI/SORI) database as required by the Town of Brooklines Health Department.

Responsibilities:
- Ensure effective group management and group safety during camp day
- Assist Nature Camp Director in leading nature-based/environmental lessons
- Assist Nature Camp Director with implementation of camp rules and regulations
- Inventory and clean all instructional materials and resources, including classroom space and vehicles used for camper transportation
- Foster a positive, welcoming, inclusive, supportive environment for all campers
- Maintain positive, effective communication with campers caregivers as needed
- Transport campers to daily field trips in Brookline and beyond by operating 12-passenger van or 15-passenger minibus
- Assist Nature Camp Director with administering First Aid as needed or required
- Perform similar or related work as directed, required, or as situations dictate
Supervision:
Nature Camp Counselors report directly to their sites Nature Camp Director, who reports to Brookline Recreations Environmental Educator. If the site is directed by the Environmental Educator, Counselors report directly to the Environmental Educator.
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years or older
- Commitment to June and July trainings and entire camp schedule in July and August
- Certification in CPR and First Aid required; able to certify during mandatory training
- Drivers License required; no CDL required
- Previous camp counselor experience preferred
- Coursework or real-world experience in hiking, ecology, biology, wildlife, and plant sciences preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills required; ability to work cooperatively and communicate well with others, verbally and in writing, including co-workers, children, and adults
- Organized, reliable, and conscientious
- Able to work independently, proactively, and as part of a team
- Ability to act professionally, appropriately, and to maintain confidentiality of records and other information
$19.00/hr. Application deadline is March 13, 2023. Employment dependent on successful completion and clearing of CORI/SORI.
