What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Athletics Assistant position at Town of Carolina Beach?
An employee in this class provides seasonal administrative and program support for the Town’s Parks and Recreation staff during seasonal organized athletic programs including public contact, janitorial maintenance, and clerical duties. Work includes serving as receptionist, assisting public with information and enrollment in programs, setting up rooms and facilities for programming, relaying information, assisting with programming and records maintenance work. Work is performed under regular supervision and reports to the Athletic Coordinator. Work requires the ability to work nights and weekends. Work is evaluated through observation, feedback, conferences, and the quality, timeliness and effectiveness of individual and team performance objectives.
Work in this class will exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work requires the use timing devices, scoreboards, record scoring sheets, facility equipment, office computer, cell phone and other office equipment. Work requires the ability to set up and break down athletic equipment. The employee may be required to sit or stand for long periods of time with occasional bending or squatting. Employee should be able to perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions. Employee must have the visual acuity to perform frequent reading, to prepare and analyze data and figures, close-up work, and ability to distinguish color and depth vision.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment subject to typical office noise as well as noise from an indoor open floor plan gymnasium, with multiple ongoing recreational programs, exercise equipment or other program facility noises. This position also requires working outside with potential exposure to insects, dirt, grass, and weather elements including rain, wind, and varying temperatures. Position requires working with hand tools and equipment/supplies. Position has some exposure to hazardous chemicals and bloodborne pathogens. Work may occur during evening hours or on Holidays or weekends. Work that brings employee in contact with bloodborne pathogens may subject the employee to compliance with OSHA standards on blood borne pathogens. Employee must use personal protective equipment as required. This position has been deemed Safety Sensitive.Education
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in recreation management, exercise science, physical education or a related field preferred.
Experience
One year of prior work experience in park and recreational programs with some clerical experience involving public contact and document production, preferred.
Special Requirements
- Assists Athletic Coordinator in activities such as planning for programs, set-up, assisting in the operation of programs, and clean-up following a program or event.
- Prepares athletic fields, gymnasiums, and other facilities for events.
- Monitors the use and return of athletic equipment, including reporting damages and losses to the Athletic Coordinator.
- Provides customer service by performing a variety of roles for the department; answers phone and assists callers or visitors with a variety of information about programs, center activities, fees, program requirements and rules, etc.
- Registers participants for programs and events; collects fees and completes proper forms; handles complaints and issues from the public; utilizes Rec Desk; checks equipment in/out and conducts orientations.
- Inputs information into an automated system such as data base, word processing program, or other systems or software to create rosters, schedules, enroll participants, take and record program and user fees or other documents; reviews and verifies records.
- Performs custodial and janitorial tasks as required ensuring health and safety of participants and others.
- Conducts routine building rounds ensuring facility standards are maintained.
- Performs administrative / clerical work as required, including cash control, preparing reports and correspondence, copying, filing, designing flyers, marketing activities and other clerical or administrative support duties.
- Develops and maintains positive working relationships with the public, other staff members, or co-workers and leadership.
- Regularly and predictably attends work.
- Performs related duties as required.
- Knowledge of recreational athletics services and programs such as leagues.
