What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facilities Maintenance Technician II position at Town of Herndon, VA?
The purpose of this position is to implement the following, but not limited to town building maintenance, including carpentry, painting, electrical and mechanical duties. Employees in this classification perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance work
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Repairs and maintains town public buildings including but not limited to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, minor HVAC equipment repairs, drywall, roofs and painting.
2. Conducts inspections for town buildings for needed repairs.
3. Repairs and maintains town electrical equipment, generators and pumps; changes light fixtures; replaces ballasts; restarts/diagnose HVAC units; repairs electric motor control panels; repairs plumbing systems, water heaters, boilers; inspects fire sprinklers and various alarms; repairs bathrooms as needed.; repairs furniture as needed; repairs floors and carpets as needed; cleans and repairs gutters and down spouts; replaces windows and screens; repairs masonry; constructs concrete structures as needed.
4. Assists in remodeling town offices, including demolishing and erecting new walls as needed.
5. Assists in contacting contractors and vendors for bid proposals.
6. Conditions town properties for season changes, such as condensation removal from sprinkler systems, as well as other preventative maintenance duties.
7. Opens and secures town buildings for special events; decorates town buildings.
8. Assists with multiple town events to include hanging banners; assisting with setup by providing temporary electrical services; trash removal, portable toilet maintenance and other duties as needed. Assists with breakdown.
9. Assists in snow removal as needed.
10. Escort contractors to their required jobsite and monitor their performance to make sure
They are going the work required of them in a timely manner and to the specifications
Required by the Town.
11. As this position is considered essential personnel, carry a Town Issued cellphone and
answer the phone when it rings. Be able to work on an on-call rotation and be available
during your assigned week to respond to after hour emergencies.
12. Performs other duties as required.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Supplemented by a minimum of three years’ experience and training involving building trades and facility maintenance; vocational or technical training in mechanical and electrical systems strongly preferred
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable record
Hours: Monday - Friday / 6:30am - 3pm

Salary : $55,000 - $77,000
