Maintenance Job Description
As a Maintenance employee at Town of Lima, you will be responsible for performing a variety of technical and skilled maintenance and operations work in the planning, construction, operations, repair, and maintenance of streets and alleys, parks, cemetery grave spaces and grounds, turf and related facilities. You will also perform routine semi-skilled utility work in the reading and operation of utility meters.
The duties include mowing and maintaining park, cemetery, and open space areas, maintaining sprinkler systems, sweeping, washing, painting, and repairing or replacing outdoor tables, performing minor unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance of open space structures, performing routine maintenance on lawn and power equipment, planting lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers, collecting and disposing of solid waste from buildings and grounds, grading and maintaining streets and alleys, plowing snow on roads when needed, removing snow on Town property as needed, hauling gravel, and maintaining vehicles and equipment.
You will also be responsible for changing light bulbs and fluorescent tubes, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, shampooing, steam-cleaning carpets, dumping trash, cleaning spills, tables, walls, fixtures, blinds, light fixtures, etc., washing windows, walls, metal and woodwork, cleaning and sweeping sidewalks, picking up litter from around buildings and grounds, performing minor semi-skilled interior building maintenance and repairs, inspecting and maintaining assigned custodial equipment and small tools for proper operating condition, traversing assigned routes and taking readings of water meters, recording readings on meter worksheets to provide needed information for utility billing or other related action, noting any unusual changes in consumption, location, or malfunctions such as leaks or damages to meters, inspecting meters and connections for defects, damage, and unauthorized connection or use, reporting findings to Mayor, rechecking readings as needed to determine abnormal consumption patterns and analyze possible causes for fluctuation or consumption, maintaining and repairing meters, replacing defective meters, testing meters for accuracy, maintaining assigned tools and equipment, responding to work orders for utility disconnections, reconnections, new orders, and other public works service requests assigned, inspecting and/or repairing water treatment equipment, pumping stations, reservoirs, wells, meters, and other elements of the water supply and distribution systems at frequent intervals to insure that all aspects of the systems are functioning properly, assisting in maintaining water quality by taking water samples, determining the location of water lines from the appropriate sources prior to excavation, responding to complaints regarding water leaks, pressure loss, or no water, evaluating situations, explaining findings to Mayor, contacting residents and business owners in areas where services will be discontinued and explaining when services will be shut off and turned back on, performing all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards, performing required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, pavement cutting, ditch digging, line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying and backfilling, making water service connections to water mains, including line tapping and valve installing, cutting, fitting, laying, repairing, tapping, cleaning, and flushing water mains, pipe, gates, and fittings on repair of mains and services and installation of services, fire hydrants, and drinking fountains, assisting in shutting off broken sections of water mains, assisting in the training of lower level employees to increase their skills in the maintenance, construction, and repair of water facilities, servicing water supply and other pumps, flushing hydrants and cleaning reservoirs, working with DEQ as needed, understanding DEQ regulations as they pertain to the water system, and being on call after hours as necessary for emergency and/or other duties.
The desired minimum qualifications include possessing a valid state driver's license or having the ability to obtain one prior to employment, skills in operating the listed tools and equipment, being able to obtain and maintain a State of Montana Weed Spraying License, being able to obtain and maintain a Water Operator Certification, and being subject to a background check and drug test.
