- Supervises pool staff and enforces pool rules and regulations.
- Ensures the health and safety of employees and patrons.
- Responds to emergency situations by performing First Aid, CPR and/or Lifeguard Training Rescues/Techniques.
- Maintains cleanliness of pool and facility.
- Prepares pool and facility for the opening and/or closing of the day.
- Operates and performs preventative maintenance on pool equipment with primary focus on the pump room.
- Assures chemicals are stored properly and in the appropriate feeders.
- May assist with ordering chemicals and supplies.
- Identifies and removes safety hazards.
- Maintains records and reports on daily attendance, maintenance, cash receipts, and prepares and verifies cash register amounts.
- Performs routine water tests and makes necessary adjustments to pool chemicals.
- Maintains vigilance awareness training standards.
- Duties may include seasonal maintenance work such as heavy cleaning, operating hand power tools, painting, light landscaping and operating small machinery.
- Develops and instructs in-service training programs for the lifeguarding staff.
- Assigns and posts lifeguards to duty areas.
- Conducts training orientations for new lifeguard personnel.
- Supervises activities at the pool when management may not be present.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of Town and Department policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of pool maintenance and operation techniques.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and procedures related to pool facilities.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations including safely rescuing drowning victims and administering CPR and First Aid.
- Ability to effectively supervise assigned pool staff.
- Ability to resolve customer complaints and concerns.
- Ability to swim 300 yards, demonstrating use of freestyle and breaststroke.
- Ability to fairly and uniformly enforce pool regulations.
- Ability to move objects over 20 pounds.
- A high school diploma or GED.
- One (1) year experience as a Lifeguard; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must possess at time of application and maintain Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR and AED certifications.
- Oxygen Administration certification may be required.
- Lifeguarding Instructor or other advanced aquatic certification preferred.
- Must obtain within 90 days of hire, associated safety certifications.
- Occasional exposure to communicable diseases associated with first aid procedures.
- Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to temperatures that exceed 110 degrees.
- Frequent exposure to chemical hazards including calcium hypochlorite and muriatic acid.
- Occasional exposure to mechanical and/or electrical hazards associated with pool operational equipment.
- Frequent exposure to noise and vibration relating to pool operational equipment.
- Seasonal exposure to wetness/humidity as well as extreme temperatures.
