Job Summary

Under general supervision, this position provides active patron and pool surveillance, manages assigned aquatics staff, and enforces safety policies and procedures within the Town of Parker’s Aquatic Facilities.

*This position performs duties deemed to be safety sensitive. Employees holding this position participate in pre-employment and random drug testing under Town’s policies*

  • Provides direct and constant patron and pool surveillance while on duty, in accordance with Starguard Elite Lifeguard Program requirements.

  • Responds to emergency situations and provides first aid and/or emergency care within limits of training; completes appropriate reports.

  • Provides excellent customer service to both patrons and staff; resolves complaints and difficult situations as required.

  • Coordinates and assists in the completion of daily cleaning and preventative maintenance checklists for the assigned facility as directed.

  • Assists in the training and supervision of Lifeguards and Head Lifeguards.

  • Assists in the execution and review of the Aquatics Division’s Audit and Shadow Programs.

  • Assists in the overall safety, maintenance, and cleanliness of the aquatic’s facility during the assigned shift.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, certification and/or licensure required. An equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential duties and meet the necessary employment standards may be considered.

Must be 17 years of age.

Three (3) years of active Lifeguard experience and one (1) year of Lifeguard Management experience is preferred

Possession of the following certifications is preferred (certification from any nationally recognized agency is accepted):


  • Lifeguarding
  • Lifeguarding Instructor (LGI)

Possession of, or the ability to obtain a Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification(s) within one (1) year of hire is preferred.

Employment Standards
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Knowledge of relevant town, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Knowledge of aquatics industry best practices and lifeguarding standards.
  • Knowledge of municipal recreation principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of pool related equipment, chemicals and material handling.
  • Skill in the training and supervision of personnel.
  • Skill in the use of computers and various software programs.
  • Skill in the use of life saving equipment.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to swim to a depth of twelve (12) feet; and respond to both land and water-based emergencies.
  • Ability to handle incidents reports and confrontations in a recreation facility.
  • Ability to provide a positive customer service attitude towards all people entering the facility.
  • Ability to operate pool related machinery and equipment and provide basic maintenance tasks.

Tools & Equipment
Requires frequent use of general office, pool, and lifesaving equipment and tools.

Physical Demands
Requires regular sitting, standing, walking, talking, handling, feeling or operating objects, stooping, kneeling, crouching, jumping, or crawling. Requires occasional reaching with hands and arms, climbing and balancing. Requires moderate to significant physical activity with heavy lifting up to 100 (one hundred) pounds without assistance. Requires close and distance vision acuity and the ability to adjust focus, allowing a broad field of vision.

Environment
Work is frequently performed in both indoor climate-controlled and outdoor pool environments. Employees holding this position will be exposed to cold or heat and wetness/humidity. The noise level is usually high and may range from moderate to extreme. The employee may occasionally work with or around hazardous items or hazardous conditions such as mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, chemicals, or radiant energy.

Part-time and Seasonal Town of Parker employees have limited access to benefits which include: employee assistance program (EAP), one (1) hour of sick time accrued for every thirty (30) hours worked, and employee plus one (1) other member in your household a membership to the Parker Recreation Center and/or Fieldhouse.
