Kitchen Officer

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Assists the Criminal Justice Center Lieutenant in implementing policy and procedure with in the facility. The Kitchen Officer will direct all meals made for the inmates in the CJC. Aid, advise and cooperate with department administration in determining matters of policy, procedure and personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• A Kitchen officer is in charge of the kitchen and providing the inmates with good tasting and nutritious meals. This gives him/her responsibility for one or more areas of the correctional facility. The overall focus of this role is to make sure that things run smoothly and assist the shift with day-to-day operations and any emergencies that may arise.
• It is the job of the Kitchen officer to ensure that the kitchen meets all security standards. As well as being responsible for inmate trustees.
• Plan and supervise the meals and delivery of drinking water to the inmates.
• Supervise all trustees in the kitchen.
• Reviews and evaluates past orders and ensures the proper amount of food is on hand.
• Must keep abreast of the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, City Policy, Attorney General Opinions and current court decisions concerning jails/jail procedures.
• Maintains good records of items ordered for the jail population.
• Responsible for shift work assignments.
• Coordinates with the supervisor on shift to ensure all duties are completed.
• Deposition as needed.
• Participates in departmental meetings.
• Any other duties designated by the Jail Administrator or the Chief of Police.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Possess a valid Texas Driver's License.
• High School Diploma/General Equivalency Certificate (GED).
• Degree in Criminal Justice (preferred) or related field.
