The Town has a population of 22,000 and covers 54 square miles from six neighborhood fire stations. We respond to over 4,700 calls for service annually, providing advanced life support EMS treatment and transport as well as full-service fire suppression, marine and technical rescue response to the citizens and visitors to our community.

We are currently accepting applications for current openings. Our full-time staff is covered under a collective bargaining agreement which includes a competitive wage and an excellent benefits package including a 25 year, no age limit, 2/3 salary retirement plan. The current CBA allows for the recognition of up to five (5) years of applicable experience for lateral entry purposes, a $3,000 bonus for current Paramedics or a Paramedic Licensure advancement incentive program.

Minimum requirements include: HS diploma or GED equivalent; interior structural firefighter certification or equivalent – Firefighter I & II preferred; completion of State certified AVOC/EVOC course; EMT license – Paramedic preferred; a valid CPAT certification (within 1 year) or successful completion of a physical ability test (PAT), and post-offer comprehensive physical exams.

The newest area for businesses to locate in Scarborough is along the Haigis Parkway, located right at Exit 42 off the Maine Turnpike. We are a suburban community that offers open spaces, parks and recreational areas for our residents and visitors.

Scarborough is conveniently located in Cumberland County in southern Maine, approximately 7 miles south of the City of Portland. It is just a short drive to Portland and the Maine Mall with easy access to the Maine Turnpike, Portland Jetport and now passenger rail service to Boston and points south. The Scarborough Town Hall is located at 259 U.S. Route 1, just south of the junction of Rt. 1 and Black Point Road/Gorham Road.
